New ‘Star Wars’ Project Brings Back Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian Replacement
The Mandalorian is returning sooner than expected.
After leading a major shift in The Mandalorian’s third season, Bo-Katan Kryze, portrayed by Katee Sackhoff, is officially back. While Sackhoff has not yet been confirmed for Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu feature film (due in 2026), the fan-favorite character is set to return in a different corner of the galaxy—this time, in a video game.
Comic Book reported this week: “We’ve known for some time now that Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment have been working together on a new turn-based tactics game set in the Star Wars universe… EA officially confirmed the game’s title today, alongside a new piece of key art. The game is titled ‘Star Wars Zero Company,’ and the key art features several character types spanning the franchise, including Jedi, Droids, Mandalorians, and more.”
The game’s timeline remains under wraps, though the reveal of a clone trooper alongside Bo-Katan herself only deepens the mystery. In fact, one of the leaked screenshots includes a telling mission directive: “support Bo Katan,” as first reported by @ponds908 on Bluesky. A batch of images from the upcoming title quickly made their way online, igniting speculation about where exactly the character’s next journey will land.
“At this time, it’s unclear exactly when the game will be taking place, but one of the leaked screenshots says, ‘support Bo Katan,'” the outlet explained. Fans are likely to learn more at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo later this week, where a world exclusive on “Zero Company” is expected.
Meanwhile, over on Disney+, The Mandalorian wrapped Season 3 with a dramatic pivot—away from Din Djarin and toward Bo-Katan’s rise as a unifier of Mandalorian clans. With the Darksaber in hand and the blessing of the Armorer (Emily Swallow), Kryze stepped into a leadership role many had long speculated about. Director and executive producer Rick Famuyiwa posed the franchise-defining question: “Who is the Mandalorian at this point?”
Despite Pedro Pascal still being credited as the lead, the actor confirmed that his on-screen presence has been minimal. Pascal’s star continues to rise with projects like HBO’s The Last of Us (now airing Season 2) and his upcoming turn as Reed Richards in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025).
Speaking to his involvement, Pascal has acknowledged that the bulk of his performance is now voice work, with Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder handling the suit work on set.
That leaves the door wide open for Sackhoff, who has already proven herself a vital figure in the current Star Wars timeline. When asked in 2023 about returning for Dave Filoni’s eventual crossover film, the actress offered a coy response: “If my phone rings, great, if not, they know how much we all want to be a part of it.”
The post-Return of the Jedi era continues to expand across multiple platforms. Following The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm launched series like Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. Like The Book of Boba Fett before them, these titles are helping build a shared narrative focused on the galaxy’s post-Imperial power struggles. With Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) on the hunt for Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), the connective tissue grows stronger.
At Star Wars Celebration Europe in 2023, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed a new slate of theatrical projects. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm the “New Jedi Order” film starring Daisy Ridley’s Rey (if production ever takes flight), and Filoni’s event film aims to tie together threads from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and more.
But first, Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu will kick things off in 2026—potentially followed by a standalone Star Wars movie from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.
Looking back, Season 3 of The Mandalorian felt less like a continuation and more like a handoff. While Din Djarin and Grogu remained central figures, it was Bo-Katan Kryze who carried the season’s arc, reclaiming both her leadership and a central place in the narrative. With Sackhoff taking the spotlight and Pascal possibly reducing his future involvement, many wonder if the Mando-Verse’s next act will revolve around her.
As for where “Zero Company” fits into all this, details are scarce—but the inclusion of Bo-Katan points to big things ahead.
