On Monday, Debra OConnell, Chairman of U.S. Entertainment Television for Disney, and Ayo Davis, President of the division, sent a joint memo to creative partners confirming that Disney Branded Television would henceforth be known as Disney Kids & Family. The memo, first reported by Deadline, began:

“Together, we have built enduring franchises beloved by kids and families around the world. Our new name better reflects the creativity, ambition and storytelling we’re known for, while bringing greater clarity to the creative community about who we are and what we create.”

“While our name is changing, our commitment to great storytelling – and to all of you – remains exactly the same,” the pair continued.

OConnell assumed her role as Chairman in March during the transition from Bob Iger to Josh D’Amaro as Disney CEO, and confirmed she had reviewed and signed off on the rebrand since taking over.

Disney Branded Television was established in 2020 under former President Gary Marsh before Davis succeeded him in 2021. The rebranded Disney Kids & Family division is responsible for the full spectrum of child-focused and family-friendly content across Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney Jr., and digital platforms, including YouTube.

The division’s track record covers short-form content, ongoing series like Phineas & Ferb and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, holiday and one-off specials, and made-for-TV movie franchises including Camp Rock (2008) and Zombies (2018). It also oversaw the acquisition and United States distribution of Bluey, the Australian children’s series that has grown into a global cultural phenomenon and one of Disney’s most valuable recent properties.
