Netflix is expanding the Stranger Things universe with another live-action series, taking the franchise back several decades before Eleven, Mike Wheeler, and the rest of the Hawkins gang encountered the Upside Down.
Titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, the prequel will be set in 1955, with its first teaser identifying Marion, Nevada, as its location. Watch the official announcement video here:

The story takes place before both the original series and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the stage production exploring the history of Henry Creel, who eventually becomes Vecna.
The announcement arrives after the original series concluded its five-season run, bringing the stories of Eleven, Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Will Byers to an end.
Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp became household names through the show, alongside established stars including Winona Ryder and David Harbour. However, none of those performers has been announced for Other Worlds, which will introduce an entirely new group of characters.
Matt and Ross Duffer are returning as co-creators and executive producers, working alongside Kate Trefry, a longtime Stranger Things writer who also penned The First Shadow. Trefry will serve as showrunner. The Duffer Brothers have been developing the idea for some time, and they’re clearly excited to finally bring it to the screen. “We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” they said.
They also teased that the series will feature “a new setting, new heroes and villains,” while keeping further story details under wraps.
Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2028. Casting has not yet been announced, and the streamer has offered little information about the story beyond its time and place. For now, fans will have to wait to discover what happened in Marion decades before the children of Hawkins encountered the Upside Down.
Stranger Things Season 1–5, and the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Seasons 1 and 2, are now streaming.
