Marvel’s Troubled ‘Blade’ Movie Finally Breaks Silence After Indefinite Delay
Marvel fans have spent years wondering whether Blade would ever actually arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What started as one of the studio’s most celebrated casting announcements gradually became one of its most troubled projects, leaving many to question whether the movie would ever happen at all.
Now, a new report is giving fans reason for optimism. Although Marvel’s standalone Blade film remains without a release date, the character may still have an important future ahead.
From Wesley Snipes to Mahershala Ali
Long before the MCU became a box office powerhouse, Wesley Snipes helped put Marvel on the map with his Blade films. His version of the vampire hunter became a fan favorite and remains one of the most influential comic book movie characters ever brought to the screen.
Marvel looked ready to begin a new chapter in 2019 when it revealed Mahershala Ali as the next Blade during San Diego Comic-Con.
The announcement generated immediate excitement. Many fans viewed Ali as a perfect choice to carry the franchise forward. Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t last.
The film was initially targeting a 2023 release, but development quickly became complicated. Directors came and went, scripts were rewritten multiple times, and the project faced repeated delays. Eventually, Marvel removed the movie from its release schedule altogether.
Those setbacks became even more frustrating because Marvel had already hinted at Blade’s place in the MCU years earlier, leading many viewers to expect his arrival sooner rather than later.

Secret Wars Rumors Spark New Interest
While the solo movie remains in limbo, rumors suggest Blade could still make his MCU debut through a different project.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported in May 2026 that Marvel was considering using Blade in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). The report did not specify which version of Blade would appear, but it immediately fueled discussion throughout the Marvel community.
One possibility involves Mahershala Ali finally stepping into the role on screen before his solo film moves forward. Another option would be for Marvel to bring back Wesley Snipes after his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
Either scenario would make Blade part of one of Marvel’s largest crossover events and keep the character connected to the studio’s future plans.

Marvel Continues Expanding Blade’s Presence
Blade’s future may extend beyond Secret Wars as well.
Rumors continue to circulate about a possible Midnight Sons project focused on Marvel’s supernatural heroes. While Marvel has not officially announced such a film, Blade is often mentioned as a major player.
Characters frequently linked to the project include Moon Knight, Dane Whitman, and Ghost Rider. If the movie eventually happens, Blade could become one of its central figures.
Marvel has also continued using Blade in animation. The character appeared in Marvel Zombies Season 1 with a unique story that tied him to Khonshu and Moon Knight’s powers.
His journey ended dramatically when a zombified Thor struck him with a powerful lightning blast.
Todd Williams voiced the character rather than Mahershala Ali, but the appearance demonstrated that Marvel still sees value in Blade, even as live-action plans remain uncertain.
Ali himself has offered little insight. During interviews promoting Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025), he admitted he was unsure where the project stood but expressed hope that the film would eventually move forward.

What Blade Could Bring to Secret Wars
If Blade joins Secret Wars, Marvel could use the opportunity in several ways.
The most nostalgic option would reunite Snipes’ Blade with other legacy Marvel characters from previous film franchises, including heroes from Fox’s original X-Men universe. Given Marvel’s ongoing Multiverse storyline, such a crossover would fit naturally.
The alternative would focus on the future.
Marvel could use Secret Wars to formally introduce Ali’s version of Blade before launching a solo adventure later. That approach would allow audiences to become familiar with the character while reducing pressure on the eventual standalone film.
Either direction could help solve one of Marvel’s biggest lingering questions.

Blade’s Story Isn’t Over Yet
Despite years of delays, Marvel has not officially closed the door on Blade.
The solo movie still lacks a timetable, but reports continue to link the character to future MCU projects. Whether that means a return for Wesley Snipes, a debut for Mahershala Ali, or a combination of both, Blade appears to remain part of Marvel’s long-term plans.
For fans who have waited since 2019, that alone may be the most promising development yet.
