A recent video shared by the Disney Parks TikTok account features a rising Marvel star showing off his lightsaber moves while visiting a Disney Park Resort, and now fans are wondering if this could hint at a possible crossover role for the Disney-owned Star Wars franchise.
There’s no place like a Disney theme park for whimsical moments and one-of-a-kind encounters, which is why hundreds of millions of Guests pass through its gates each year. Certainly, there’s nowhere else besides the Happiest Place on Earth and the Most Magical Place on Earth where you might see your favorite superhero character suddenly engaged in a lightsaber battle!

In fact, that’s precisely what happened to Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s highly acclaimed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), on a recent visit to the Disneyland Resort in Southern California.
Liu, who starred in Kim’s Convenience Store, briefly served as a stock photo model and will feature in the upcoming Barbie live-action film, skyrocketed to fame after playing the lead role of Shang Chi (or Shaun), a seemingly average guy trying to escape a dark past. Alongside his best friend Katy (Awkwafina) and his sister Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang), he discovers the truth about his magically gifted parents and must utilize family teachings to defeat a great evil.

Since then, Liu has enjoyed his celebrity status as he prepares for roles in Shang-Chi 2 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, even apparently hopping over from Hollywood to Southern California for a day at the Disneyland Resort! In a video originally shared by TikTok user Roger Stark, we see Liu borrowing a double-bladed lightsaber, likely purchased within Batuu at Galaxy’s Edge.

The seated crowd watches in awe as Liu twirls the saber, utilizing choreographed “lightsaber skills” learned on the set of Shang-Chi for his character’s first signature weapon, a dragon scale staff. Although Liu notes the sabers have more resistance, making them “very slow to move,” the encounter still wowed Stark and others.

In the end, the actor returns the faux weapon to its owner, whom he took a sweet photo with afterward, and notes this was his audition for a role in Disney’s Star Wars franchise. “Did I get the part? Can I be in the Star Wars movie now?” asks Simu.
Fans can only hope so!
