Disney Parks has announced that an all-new character will meet and greet Guests for a limited time in honor of its Celebrate Soulfully event: Lunella Lafayette from the Disney Television Animation and Marvel series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Celebrate Soulfully honors Black stories by highlighting experiences and characters within the African American community and offers a variety of exclusive food and entertainment in Disney theme parks throughout Black History Month and beyond. For example, Disney fans will be able to interact with a brand new character from the Disney Channel series debuting on February 10, 2023!
According to the Disney Parks Blog, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur stars Lunella Lafayette, a 13-year-old super genius living in New York City’s Lower East Side. When the modern-day girl accidentally brings a ten-ton T-Rex called Devil Dinosaur back from the past, she adopts the superhero identity Moon Girl to protect her neighborhood from danger.
Moreover, family-friendly series will increase on-screen representation for children of color while showing them a positive role model who is actively involved in her own future and with her surroundings, engaging with the people who call her neighborhood home. The storyline feels similar to that of the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction to open at Disneyland Park and the Walt Disney World Resort, in which Princess Tiana brings the people of New Orleans together through her community-owned Tiana’s Foods brand, as well as the modern Black-empowerment message of the Disney+ reboot, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
In addition to a fan meet and greet with Luna at Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Land, which will benefit Guests of all ages, Disneyland will also offer a special character cavalcade on Hollywood Blvd and a one-day-only entertainment performance on February 15 when the show premieres on Disney+. However, Luna will still be available to meet with Disney Park Guests beyond the day of the show’s debut and the Hollywood Backlot Stage offerings.
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort Guests can enjoy all the limited-time offerings during the month of February to Celebrate Soulfully with family and friends and catch Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur when it airs on February 10 for Disney Channel and February 15 on Disney+.
