Over the years, Marvel has launched the careers of many young actors and actresses, who are now some of the most well-known celebrities in Hollywood. Recently, one of those actors whose face is now extremely recognizable is Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi in the hit Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Liu soared onto screens and into the limelight and has been very vocal about how grateful he is for everything that has happened. However, everything is not all sunshine and roses and the actor was recently in a dangerous situation that left him shaken.
Recently, Liu was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for an event promoting his new book, We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story. According to the actor, he was leaving the event when he was harassed by people he called “professional autograph seekers.” Professional autograph seekers are people who make their money getting celebrities to autograph photos or items and then selling those items. Liu said that the autograph seekers were so aggressive that they even threw soda at his car.
Liu shared a picture of the car the people were driving on his official Twitter account and called them out for crossing a very big line.
Had a not great altercation at the end of my book event in Philly.
Look, I’m trying to have a real moment with my audience. If you come to my events and harass me or make me or my fans uncomfortable, there’s no chance in hell I’m going to sign for you. Don’t cross that line.
Best photo that I could get but these professional autograph seekers followed us out of the Philly event and then threw soda on our window. They then ran to their car to remove the front license plate so we couldn’t ID them. Thankfully we had someone at the event venue documenting so we will get them and file a report with authorities. Obviously everyone is finebut we were just a bit shook that this could happen.

Liu also spoke about the incident in his Instagram stories. He said that some people don’t mind signing things for professional autograph seekers, but he does not like to reward them with an autograph when they get too close or aggressive and invade his personal space. He reminded any autograph seeker that, should they act inappropriately, he will not sign for them at that moment or any time again in the future. Liu also noted that the soda attack was not the first time that he has had bad encounters with those kinds of people and that “toxic culture.”
Liu is currently keeping incredibly busy. He currently has four movies in post-production and is hard at work filming the new Barbie movie, which will also star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Soon, Liu will begin work on the untitled sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
