‘Jurassic Park’ (1993) Direct Sequel Gets Promising Update

It’s been over a year since we first got the first trailer for the next big hit in dinosaur gaming. Now, “Jurassic Park: Survival” is finally showing signs of life after its trailer stunned audiences at the 2023 Game Awards.

Set just 24 hours after the chaos of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic, this first-person action-adventure game throws players right into the heart of the aftermath on Isla Nublar.

The protagonist, Dr. Maya Joshi, is an InGen scientist who couldn’t escape the island when the original disaster struck—a twist that immediately sets the stage for an intense fight for survival against some of the most fearsome prehistoric predators.

What makes this project truly intriguing isn’t just its setting or timing but its promise to offer a never-before-seen narrative that expands the beloved Jurassic Park universe. The game dares to reimagine the survival story of someone who was left behind.

The very idea of facing deadly dinosaurs in a scenario where every moment counts, and every decision could mean life or death, is enough to get any fan’s heart racing.

Last June, insights provided by Universal and Saber Interactive—who shared with IGN an internal Q&A conducted with executive producer John Melchior and creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick—hinted at an active and evolving development process.

But despite the trailer and the update, many fans remain convinced that “Survival” won’t ever happen, which is hardly surprising when you looked at the franchise’s history in gaming, particularly where projects with the word “Survival” in their titles are concerned.

Now, Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer Tim Willits has reassured fans on X (Twitter) that “everything we have talked about is still in development.”

Here’s his full statement regarding a number of Saber’s projects:

“Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.”

This news brings a welcome dose of optimism amid fears that “Jurassic Park: Survival” might be following in the footsteps of past projects that never made the cut.

Adding fuel to the fire, Saber Interactive has been busy juggling multiple high-profile projects ranging from remakes to entirely new adventures like the highly anticipated “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” remake and “Turok: Origins.”

For Jurassic fans, the prospect of returning to Isla Nublar is thrilling—especially when you consider that the game’s narrative picks up immediately after the chaos of Jurassic Park.
