Johnny Depp May Require One Million Alpacas to Work For Disney but His Love for the Fans Remains Strong
It may take one million alpacas to persuade Johnny Depp to be Captain Jack Sparrow for Disney, but it takes considerably less to convince him to portray Captain Jack for fans. He’ll do it for free!
The ousted actor apparently holds a grudge (we can’t say we blame him) and has repeatedly said he’d never go back to Disney after they fired him based on unproven abuse allegations.
During the infamous defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, he even went so far as to say (under oath) that he would not accept a role in future Pirates of the Caribbean films unless Disney provided him with “300 million dollars and one million alpacas.”
True to his fans, though, Depp doesn’t let the grudge prevent him from showing off the beloved character for them. In fact, he doesn’t travel without Jack Sparrow…just in case! During a recent press conference, Depp stated he’d dress up as Jack Sparrow just to make people smile.
“I don’t need a company to do that,” he said. “I can just do that myself, and nobody can take that away; that’s the greatest pleasure of Jack Sparrow. I can travel with Captain Jack in a box–literally Captain Jack in a box and when the opportunity is right, and I’m able to go and visit people and places where the smiles and the laughs and the important things, the most important things in the world are on the line.”
Though Johnny Depp is unlikely to return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a Pirates of the Caribbean film, his love for the character remains strong. As to whether he regrets working for Disney, Depp seems to have no regrets but instead looks at his iconic role optimistically.
“I suppose this is the positive side of having, in a strange way, given life to those characters like Captain Jack or whatever character,” Depp explained. “I was lucky enough to locate and bring to life the beauty of Captain Jack Sparrow.”
