Magic Kingdom Ride Issues Force Closure of “it’s a small world”
Saturday turned into a frustrating day for guests at Magic Kingdom Park after a wave of attraction closures swept through the park. “it’s a small world” bore the brunt of the disruption more than any other ride at the original Walt Disney World Resort theme park.
“it’s a small world” Closed For Most of Saturday

“It’s a small world” opened alongside the rest of Magic Kingdom Park at 9:00 a.m. on June 6 with a five-minute posted wait. By 10:00 a.m., the wait had nudged up to ten minutes, still nothing unusual for a Saturday.
Then, at 11:00 a.m., the Fantasyland attraction went dark.

The My Disney Experience app flagged “it’s a small world” as “temporarily closed,” and it stayed that way for the rest of the afternoon and well into the evening. The ride didn’t reopen until 8:00 p.m. — nine hours after it first shut down — before operating normally through Magic Kingdom Park’s 11:00 p.m. closing time.

A Park-Wide Problem in the Early Afternoon

“it’s a small world” wasn’t the only ride to close at Magic Kingdom Park on Saturday. During the early afternoon on June 6, at least five other Magic Kingdom Park attractions went offline simultaneously, including The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. All shut down at roughly the same time. These types of incidents typically follow a park-wide power disruption or technical failure rather than individual ride issues.

Walt Disney World Resort made no public statement about what caused the widespread shutdowns on Saturday. The other affected attractions recovered and returned to service considerably sooner than “it’s a small world,” suggesting the Fantasyland ride was contending with a separate or more complex issue in addition to whatever triggered the broader afternoon outage.
As of Sunday, June 7, “it’s a small world” was back up and running normally at Magic Kingdom Park.
