Early Wednesday morning, just hours before the dangerous major hurricane came ashore, a hurricane warning was issued for Hilton Head, South Carolina, among other cities and towns.
Hilton Head Island is part of the state of South Carolina and is home to one of Disney’s Resorts. Disney owns two beach resorts–Vero Beach Resort in Florida and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina.
Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is located near South Carolina’s border with the state of Georgia, which was slammed by Hurricane Idalia earlier today. As the hurricane continues to move across land, its intensity will decrease, but it is projected to still be at hurricane status by the time it arrives in South Carolina.
Per the Disney Resort’s official website:
Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is located on the picturesque coast of South Carolina, only 5 hours from Walt Disney World Resort. This elegant, relaxing home-away-from-home—fashioned after a 1940s hunting and fishing lodge—combines local charm and simple pleasures with outdoor fun for the entire family. The resort features multi-roomed villas and many recreational activities, including 12 miles of heavenly beaches.
As of the time of this publication, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort has asked guests to remain in their rooms after 8:00 p.m. ET Wednesday evening. Two locations on the Resort’s property closed at 1:00 p.m. ET–the Mercantile and Signals Seaside Grill. The Tide Me Over walk-up snack window is still open and will remain open until 5:00 p.m. ET.
As this continues to be a developing story, more information will be shared as it becomes available.
