Hours After Closing, Disney Erases Muppet*Vision 3D Forever

After 34 years of delighting guests, Muppet*Vision 3D has officially closed its doors, marking the end of an era at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On June 7, 2025, the beloved attraction bid farewell to fans, and in just a matter of hours, Walt Disney World Resort took action to completely erase the Muppets from the park—at least for now.

The final performance of Muppet*Vision 3D was emotional for many, as fans flooded the attraction for one last chance to experience the show. A line stretched to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as eager Disney Park guests waited to see their favorite Muppets one last time. By the evening, the Muppets said their goodbyes, and the attraction was permanently shut down.

But the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D is just one part of a larger transformation happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The space is being transformed into a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) land, featuring a door roller coaster based on the beloved Pixar film. This news was first announced at the D23 Expo 2024, with concept art that suggested Imagineers were choosing whether to replace Muppets Courtyard or Animation Courtyard.

Rumors about Muppet*Vision 3D’s fate started circulating after the announcement, with Jim Henson fans hoping that Disney would reconsider. However, the fate of the Muppets was sealed when Disney confirmed that the Monsters, Inc. land would take over Muppets Courtyard and much of Grand Avenue. Along with the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney also shut down PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.

While Muppets fans were disappointed by the news, Jim Henson’s creations will remain in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney Imagineers have announced plans to retheme Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith after The Muppets Mayhem, a musical series available on Disney+. This means that while the Muppets are leaving their longtime home in Muppets Courtyard, they will have a presence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the form of an updated, Muppets-themed roller coaster.

In typical Disney fashion, the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D was followed by a swift transformation. Just hours after the final show on Saturday, Disney cast members were already working to block off the Muppets Courtyard from guests. A photo shared by Reddit user u/Ok_World_8819 on Sunday captured a lone Disney cast member standing in front of large rolling planters that concealed the entire area.

The changes didn’t stop there. Walt Disney World Resort’s My Disney Experience app was updated to remove Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D from the park map. The new Disney’s Hollywood Studios map now shows only trees and greenery in the area near Grand Avenue, marking the physical and virtual erasure of the Muppets’ presence in the park.

Disney has reassured fans that Jim Henson’s final major project is not completely gone forever. The company has promised to preserve Muppet*Vision 3D and explore ways to make it available to fans at a later date, though no specifics have been announced.

Construction on the new Monsters, Inc. land is set to begin this summer. While the Muppets are no longer a part of the park in their original form, they will still have a place in the park’s future with the rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster attraction, slated to open in 2026. The Aerosmith theme will remain in place through 2025.
