From Magic Kingdom to Disneyland Park, attractions such as the Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” and the Jungle Cruise are some of the most beloved because of how original they are and because they show Walt Disney’s innovation and inventiveness the most.

However, no classic attraction is as cherished as the Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride captures the magic and whimsy that Walt Disney envisioned for Disneyland Resort and subsequent theme parks. This heartwarming video shows exactly what we mean by that.

Walt Disney loved this idea. 🏴‍☠️ It’s too bad he never got to actually experience it. #piratesofthecaribbean #disney #1960s #soundsfun #disneylandparis

In this video, a voice-over of Walt Disney plays describing the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction:

People are going to get into a boat here and ride through the lagoon, and then as they get around here we’re gonna take ‘em down a waterfall and take ’em back into the past into the days of the pirates, y’know, where they-the whole Caribbean area was full of pirates, and they were always sacking towns and things. And you believe in pirates of course?

Now here, you see the pirates are dunking the mayor into the well,  trying to force him to reveal the hiding places of the town treasure. The audience will be seeing this from a boat, you know! And all the characters will be life-size, and life-like in their movements.

(That is absolutely fantastic!) Oh, that’s only part of it! We’ve got a big climatic scene! (But how could you top it?) Well, we set the place on fire, and we have our audience trapped down in this flaming city.

(Well, how can they get out, then?) Well, now, you got into this mess by going down a waterfall. Now how would you suppose we get ‘em out of there? (By going up the waterfall?) That’s right! Anything’s possible at Disneyland.

Although much of Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom has changed in the decades since these Disney Parks first opened, it’s heartwarming to know that so many of Walt Disney’s original ideas are still present.

More About the Pirates of the Caribbean:

Board an ancient barge in a dark, gloomy bayou. Brave the plummet as you fall down a waterfall into the dark as the barge wanders into Pirates Grotto, taking Guests into port amidst an exciting battle of cannons between the town’s fort and a big pirate ship.

As Guests enter the town, the fun begins. The pirates pillage the town’s goods and drink themselves silly, auctioneer the villagers’ belongings, and sing the iconic shanty, “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).”

While the town goes up in flames, prisoners try their best to escape their jail cell. If you’re quick enough, you may even catch a glimpse of Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean series. After all, Captain Jack Sparrow is never too far from the treasure and the fun and, of course, the rum!
