All the way back in 2016, Disney announced that they would be creating a live-action of their very first animated full-length feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Live-action remakes have been very successful for the studio giant, so it made total sense that they would be interested in creating a live-action version of the film that launched Walt Disney and his animation studio into superstardom.
While the movie is set to start filming next year, very little is known about who will be bringing the classic characters to life. In June, it was announced that Rachel Zegler — star of Steven Spielberg’s new West Side Story remake — will be playing the fairest princess in all the land. And now we know who will be playing her murderous stepmother/Evil Queen — Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.
Per Deadline Hollywood:
While her latest tentpole Red Notice is set for its big Hollywood premiere tonight, Gal Gadot looks to have found her next project that is sure to be the fairest of them all. Sources tell Deadline that Gadot is in final negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White, the one that started it all for the studio’s legendary slate of animated features. Rachel Zegler is set to play the titular character, with Marc Webb directing and Marc Platt producing. Production is expected to start in 2022.
While it is safe to assume that the new live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will follow an almost identical storyline as the animated version — as almost all Disney remakes tend to do — it is possible that we may see a new take on the classic songs. Disney has brought on Benj Pasek and Justin Paul to write the music for the film. The duo is well-known for writing the music for hits such as The Greatest Showman, La La Land, and Dear Evan Hansen.
At this time, casting has not been announced for the seven dwarfs who take in the frightened Snow White or who will play the Huntsman who is tasked with killing Snow White and carving out her heart.
