On July 15, Disney will wrap up the Zombies trilogy with the Disney+ release of Zombies 3. The first film in the Zombies trilogy — called Z-O-M-B-I-E-S — came out in 2018 and told the story of Addison, a human, and Zed, a zombie. Zombies were being introduced to Seabrook High, since they no longer ate brains, and the transition was anything but smooth. The friendship between Addison — played by Meg Donnelly — and Zed — played by Milo Manheim — was able to unite the school and the students. Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2 came out two years later and introduced werewolves to Seabrook.
Zombies 3 will introduce yet another group to Seabrook — aliens. Led by the Mothership (voiced by RuPaul), the aliens will threaten the peaceful town and the students at the high school. Zombies 3 will be out in just over three weeks, and Disney has released a trailer for the film. The trailer was first shared with People.
You can watch the trailer below:
Meg Donnelly — who also stars in the Disney series High School Musical: The Musical – The Series — spoke to People when the official trailer was released about what makes Zombies 3 different from the first two movies.
“[This film] is something so different than [anything] we’ve ever done,” Donnelly, 21, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
As the third film makes the move from Disney Channel to Disney+, she adds that Zombies 3 feels much more like a feature film: “The way the shots are, the music numbers, everything is just bigger and better and more mature.”
“I would love to be a part of the Zombies franchise for as long as possible,” she says. “I love playing Addison and this story has changed my life.”
She continues, “It’s so incredible to have young kids come up and be inspired by the movie in any capacity because that was me when I was younger. I watched Disney Channel and I was so inspired. So the fact that little kids are watching Zombies and the same thing is happening for them, it’s really special. There’s something so magical about it.”
Unlike many Disney movies, Zombies 3 will have two different premiere dates. Zombies 3 will premiere on Disney+ on July 15. Then, less than one month later, on August 12, the film will premiere on the Disney Channel.
Here is more information on Zombies 3:
Zombies 3 sees DGA Award-winner and franchise director Paul Hoen back in the saddle, continuing the story of Zed (Mannheim) and Addison (Donnelly) as they enter their senior year of high school at Seabrook High. Since the first film, the once human-exclusive town of Seabrook has become a safe haven and melting pot for humans and monsters. Zed hopes to make history as the first zombie to ever attend college with the help of an athletic scholarship just as Addison is prepping for the first international cheer-off in Seabrook’s history. The friendly competitions come to a halt with the arrival of aliens, threatening the peaceful town once more.
In addition to Milo Manheim returning as Zed and Meg Donnelly reprising her role as Addison, Zombies 3 will also have a number of stars from the first two coming back, including Chandler Kinney as Willa, Ariel Martin as Wynter, Pearce Joza as Wyatt, Carla Jeffery as Bree, Trevor Tordjman as Bucky, Kylee Russell as Eliza, James Godfrey as Bonzo and Kingston Foster as Zoey.
