Beloved and famous Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump has been honored by Disney with the perfect bust almost a year after his passing.
If Disney cast members are the heart and soul of the Disney experience, then Walt Disney Imagineering are the creative minds behind it. Disney Imagineers are some of the foremost technical and creative minds in the world who work very hard to make sure our favorite rides and attractions are up to par and are designed to uphold the Disney standard of creativity.
Disney Honors Rolly Crump with New Bust Aboard Disney Treasure
Disney Imagineers are celebrities unto themselves, and the Walt Disney Company has often honored them by conferring them the status of “Disney Legend.” One such late Disney Legend is former Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump.
Crump is known for his work during the early days of Disney and had an integral role in the design and construction of Disneyland Resort’s original Haunted Mansion.
On March 12, 2023, Roland Fargo Crump, i.e., Rolly Crump, passed away after a long, wonderful life at 93 years old. Now, almost a full year later, Disney is honoring him anew with a bust coming to the Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship.
The memorial stems from one of Crump’s own ideas. In Rolly Crump’s larger creative concept for a “Museum of the Weird” in the Haunted Mansion, Crump wanted to include a character that was melting away like a candle. As fans can see Disney has honored that vision in this bust!
Per Disney Parks Blog, it isn’t just the bust that recalls Crump. Disney writes,
The Haunted Mansion Parlor will unlock the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion saga for Disney Cruise Line guests. The venue will be imbued with Crump’s unique brand of humor and is a proud continuation of his legacy, celebrating the weird and the fantastical.
It’s certainly a wonderful and appropriate way to honor one of the initial minds behind Disneyland and Disney World‘s most iconic ride.
