How Does Your Family Reflect Their #DisneySide?

How Does Your Family Reflect Their #DisneySide?

By Cassie

Do you have stick figure stickers on your mini-van, SUV or other vehicle wearing Mickey ears? I have always wanted stickers that truly represented my family at Disney so when I read on the Disney Parks Blog about creating your own Disney Stick Figures to show your “Disney Side” I had to check it out. Come on, join me on this design challenge!

Go to: buildyourdisneyside.com (It is the purple square with a stick figure in it on the left side of the screen when you visit DisneySide.com)

Here we can pick our family members, accessories for each and even their costumes! Let’s add our family name, or a cute caption, and voila! We are then able to share our image on social sites, download the image, or get this, order a decal! (Only one decal per household.) You can download as many designs as you like and the decal is free!

Let’s look at this step-by-step.  In the first screen you will be selecting your family members: adult, teen, child, toddler and pet.  The order you choose will be the order they appear on your final image.  At the top of the screen you will see “1” is highlighted for you to start. Who do you want on the left side of your image first? Select from the group of stick figures, then click
“continue” at the bottom of the screen.  I selected “Adult” and then “Continue”.

You will see dots circling until the next page loads.  When you click on a category it will ask you if you want to unlock the Premium options. If yes, enter your email address followed by first and last name, date of birth, and to select a month in the drop down menu for “In which month are you interested in visiting Disney Parks next?” and an agreement box for Terms of Use that allows Disney to send you occasional updates, special offers, etc. In doing this you unlock some additional images to pick from.  The “Premium Option” is also free so select away.  Make sure you look at all the pages of items available to personalize your stick figures.  You can actually download several designs, but can pick only one to be made into a free decal.

Make sure you look at all the pages of items available to personalize your stick figures.  The categories are: Hair, Clothes, Hats, Mustaches and Lashes, Glasses, and Accessories. There is a wide variety of hairstyles, over two pages, that includes contemporary styles down to no hair. The clothes category has many to choose from in its two-pages of apparel.  The Hats category also has two pages, which I am happy to see includes a tiara and Oswald ears.  Some of the hat styles go better than others depending on the hair you chose.  There are several glasses designs to choose from an even an eye patch.

The Mustache and Lashes includes several mustache, beard, mustache and beards, eyelashes and even freckles.  These are all so much fun to play with! My favorite category was the accessories, but it was hard to settle on just one per figure.  You can choose from wands, to Dole Whips, Churros, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, etc. to have in your hand.

This really is a lot of fun to do together as a family. Who knows, it just may bring out a Disney Side of someone you didn’t realize was in there! After you select each person you will be asked to choose a background.  The backgrounds are of two castle types, silhouette of roller coasters, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom art are featured as well.  You may select no background if you like.  You will be asked to put in your family name/caption from a drop down caption list.

You can’t write whatever you want there, because, well, its Disney.  You will be asked to select a background color, which you must select one of. There are samples of what the background colors would look like.

Once you have completed your Build Your Disney Side experience a screen will ask you if you would like to “order a decal” and/or “download your image”.  I downloaded my image first, just to be sure I had a copy of it, then selected the “order your decal” button on the bottom right. This will take you to a screen that has all the information you already loaded, if you chose to unlock the premium options, and then asks you to complete your mailing address and to choose which Disney park, California or Walt Disney World, that you plan to visit next.  Once you have filled all that out you complete your order and a confirmation email is in your inbox telling you to expect delivery of your decal within 4 to 6 weeks.

You can continue making and downloading stick figures to your heart’s content but you can only order one decal per family.  There are buttons on the screen for you to share your stick figures online via Twitter, facebook, Pinterest, Google+, and Tumbler so you can share it right away with your family and friends. So what does your #DisneySide look like?

About Cassie

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food and being able to share it with you to help you plan your own magical day at Disney.
