In August 2019, NBCUniversal announced that a brand-new theme park was coming to its Universal Orlando Resort. The massive theme park would be unlike anything Universal had done before. It would be epic. Which is why Universal chose to name it Epic Universe.

Epic Universe will be the fourth theme park — following Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay (the water park).

Early on, Universal announced that they expected to have the new theme park open and operational by 2025 or 2026. However, they have since confirmed that they are on track for a 2025 opening.

On the morning of January 30, Universal announced Epic Universe would have a new, previously secret, land called Celestial Park. According to Universal, Celestial Park will truly embrace its name. The area will truly be a lush park, filled with beautiful gardens, stunning water features, and relaxing paths for guests to stroll along. Of course, it wouldn’t be “celestial” without architecture inspired by both the astronomical and the mythological.

The highlight of Celestial Park will be the interactive water fountains in the center of the land. Here is more on the highlight of Celestial Park, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:

A central and immersive feature of the park will be the interactive wet-play area, Astronomica. A collection of crystal blue fountains that spring to life around guests, the attraction doubles as a giant compass, pointing park attendees to the various lands of Epic Universe. Additional fountain shows, some reaching up to 135 feet in the air and programmed to sway to music and interactive lighting day-round, will be located throughout the land’s seven acres of water.

One of the most exciting features will be so much more than a garden or a fountain. Celestial Park will also feature a dual-racing roller coaster, reminiscent of the Dueling Dragons attraction at Universal’s Islands of Adventure!

Starfall Racers will rocket guests along 5,000 feet of track, as they race comets. The coaster will reach heights of more than 130 feet and speeds of 62 miles per hour. The ride will also feature what Universal is calling the “Celestial Spin”. Each ride vehicle will crisscross over each other as guests are flipped upside down.

In February 2023, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD opened in Universal Studios Hollywood. The new land’s highlight is a brand-new attraction that takes guests inside Bowser’s castle and lets them race like they are in Mario Kart.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe will feature not only the Mario Kart attraction, but also a Donkey Kong-themed roller coaster. Guests will also be able to meet some of their favorite Nintendo characters, including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad.

Fans are also incredibly excited to see the expansion of the incredibly popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This third Harry Potter area will bring the Ministry of Magic to life. Universal shared that the new area will embrace the 1920s aesthetic and will highlight the world guests discovered in the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016).
