Effective Immediately: Walt Disney World Triggers Construction Waves Across 4 Major Resorts
Construction walls have become almost as common as Mickey-shaped snacks at Walt Disney World.
Over the past several years, Disney has launched an aggressive campaign to modernize its hotels, attractions, transportation systems, and entertainment offerings. While much of the attention often focuses on major theme park projects, some of the biggest changes are happening at the resorts themselves.
Now, Disney has officially confirmed major work impacting four separate hotel experiences across Walt Disney World.
From completely redesigned guest rooms to refurbished villas and resort enhancements, the latest announcements signal another significant wave of construction activity that will continue shaping vacations throughout 2026.

Art of Animation Undergoes Major Transformation
The biggest project involves Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
Disney recently unveiled a preview of the new Little Mermaid rooms coming to the resort as part of an extensive refurbishment project. The update affects both standard rooms and family suites and will be completed in phases while the resort remains operational.
The redesigned rooms feature new under-the-sea artwork, updated furnishings, a Murphy bed configuration similar to neighboring Pop Century Resort, and refreshed decorative elements inspired by Ariel’s world.
While Disney is keeping the Little Mermaid theme intact, the overhaul effectively marks the end of the original room design that has welcomed guests since the resort opened in 2012.
For longtime Disney fans, it represents the latest example of the company retiring a classic resort experience in favor of a more modern approach.
Treehouse Villas Receive Complete Refresh
Disney also pulled back the curtain on another major hotel project.
The Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort are receiving a substantial interior redesign focused on natural textures, brighter finishes, and upgraded amenities.
Preview images released by Disney showcase renovated kitchens, new flooring, updated furniture, refreshed lighting, and redesigned bedrooms featuring subtle references to Disney films including Cinderella and The Fox and the Hound.
The villas have always occupied a unique niche within Walt Disney World accommodations, offering guests a secluded experience surrounded by nature. Disney’s latest refurbishment appears designed to strengthen that identity while bringing the accommodations up to modern standards.
Resort Upgrades Continue Across Property
The latest announcements arrive after months of completed hotel projects throughout Walt Disney World.
Guests have already seen work wrap up at multiple resorts, including room refurbishments, pool enhancements, transportation improvements, and refreshed dining spaces.
Disney’s ongoing strategy appears clear: modernize aging accommodations while keeping resort themes recognizable enough to satisfy returning guests.
That balancing act has become increasingly important as competition grows across Central Florida.
Universal Orlando continues expanding following the opening of Epic Universe, making resort quality an even bigger factor in vacation planning.

Construction Has Become the New Normal
The reality is that Walt Disney World is operating in a nearly constant state of transformation.
Whether guests stay at a Value Resort, Moderate Resort, Deluxe Resort, or Disney Vacation Club property, there is a good chance some type of refurbishment project will be taking place nearby.
Disney typically schedules work in phases specifically to minimize disruptions, but construction activity remains a reality for thousands of guests every year.
The latest announcements show that trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
As Disney continues refreshing aging hotel inventory, more construction walls, temporary closures, and phased refurbishments will likely become part of the vacation experience.
For guests planning trips in late 2026 and beyond, the payoff could be significantly improved accommodations. But in the short term, Walt Disney World is once again entering another major construction cycle across some of its most recognizable resort destinations.
