Dollywood’s Beloved Christmas Tradition Will Never Be Quite the Same

Christmas at Dollywood has always been about more than decorations, holiday music, and festive attractions. For generations of visitors, the Tennessee theme park has represented the warmth and personality of Dolly Parton herself.

But this year, one of the park’s most beloved traditions will carry an entirely different meaning.

Following Parton’s passing in August 2026, Dollywood is preparing to celebrate its first Christmas season without the legendary entertainer who helped make the destination famous.

And while the celebration will continue, there’s no denying that this holiday season will be an emotional one for longtime fans.

Dollywood Prepares for Its First Christmas Without Dolly Parton

Dollywood has confirmed that its annual Smoky Mountain Christmas celebration will begin November 6, 2026, and continue through January 3, 2027.

The popular holiday event has become a tradition for families who travel to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to experience Christmas in the Smoky Mountains.

This year’s celebration, however, will also honor Parton’s extraordinary legacy.

Guests can expect more than six million Christmas lights illuminating the park, along with towering Christmas trees, festive decorations, seasonal entertainment, and visits with Santa Claus.

Dollywood will also offer its collection of more than 50 rides and attractions throughout the celebration.

Although the familiar Christmas experiences will return, the absence of the woman whose name remains synonymous with the park will undoubtedly make this season different.

Dolly Parton’s Legacy Remains Part of the Experience

For guests hoping to celebrate Parton’s life, Dollywood offers several attractions dedicated to her career and personal history.

The Dolly Parton Experience features exhibits exploring her journey from a childhood in nearby Sevierville to becoming an internationally recognized entertainer.

At Behind the Seams, visitors can see elaborate costumes from her performances, while Home on Wheels offers a look inside her touring bus.

The Songteller Museum also showcases photographs, memorabilia, and records documenting her remarkable career.

These experiences have always been popular among fans, but they could take on additional significance this Christmas.

A Holiday Tradition That Will Continue

Beyond the emotional significance, Dollywood is preparing another full Christmas celebration.

Guests can enjoy seasonal entertainment, holiday treats, and the park’s famous cinnamon bread from The Grist Mill.

Wildwood Grove will also feature its nighttime snow and light display, giving families another opportunity to experience the holiday atmosphere.

For Dollywood fans, the upcoming season represents both a celebration and a reminder of the woman behind the park.

Christmas at Dollywood will continue, just as it has for years.

But for the first time, visitors will experience the beloved tradition knowing that Dolly Parton is no longer here to see it.

And that alone makes Christmas 2026 a holiday season unlike any other in Dollywood’s history.
