Luxury Disney World Hotel Blocks Guest Access to Souvenirs
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has temporarily closed one of its largest merchandise locations as part of a month-long refurbishment project.
The BouTiki store, located on the first floor of the Great Ceremonial House, has long been a spot for Walt Disney World Resort guests to pick up tropical trinkets, Hawaiian shirts, and Disney-themed souvenirs. It’s a favorite shopping destination for visitors staying at the Polynesian Village Resort and Magic Kingdom Park guests taking a break to hop around the Monorail line.
As of June 2, crews began work on a large refurbishment project that is expected to last through the end of the month. During this time, half of the store will be closed off to guests, and only a limited selection of merchandise will be available in the remaining open area.
“Please be aware that maintenance may be seen and heard in the area until the work is complete at the end of June,” an official notice reads on Walt Disney World Resort’s website.
For those still hoping to pick up some souvenirs at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort during the ongoing work, there is an alternative shopping location nearby. Guests can head to Moana Mercantile on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House, which will remain open and unaffected by the ongoing construction.
Disney has not released further details about the work on BouTiki, but it’s clear that the store is undergoing some significant changes. While the closure may cause inconvenience for some guests, it’s important to note that this is only a temporary disruption. BouTiki is expected to reopen at the end of June or early July.
The Polynesian Village Resort has seen numerous changes since it opened alongside Walt Disney World Resort in 1971, from the addition of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) tower to its controversial lobby renovations in 2014. Yet, despite these updates, it remains one of the most popular hotels on Disney property, with signature dining locations like ‘Ohana and Trader Sam’s continuing to draw in guests.
