Disney World Brings Animal Kingdom Theme Park Into the Modern Era
A portion of the main entrance to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is being repaved this week, and the visual difference between the old and new pavement makes the upgrade impossible to miss.
Fresh Concrete at the Park Entrance

On Wednesday, Blog Mickey reported that green plastic barricades had appeared around a section of the main entrance to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, with Walt Disney World Resort actively pouring new concrete in the area. The outlet shared a photo capturing the striking contrast between the freshly laid dark brown pavement and the worn, faded beige walkways surrounding it.
The work is taking place in the area just beyond the security checkpoint at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, near the Rainforest Cafe entrance — a stretch guests pass through before reaching the actual theme park gate and the Guest Services office. The existing pavement in the area shows visible cracking and age, making the refurbishment a long-overdue practical improvement for one of Walt Disney World Resort‘s busiest pedestrian corridors.

Both the main entrance and the alternate entrance through the Rainforest Cafe remain accessible to guests throughout the construction. Families may need to navigate around barricaded sections as the concrete is poured and cured, but no significant disruptions to the park arrival experience are anticipated.
Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on the project, which is consistent with how the resort handles routine maintenance that doesn’t require closures or significantly disrupt the guest experience.
What Comes Next

Whether Walt Disney World Resort plans to continue replacing the entrance walkways in stages — as it has with similar projects in the past — hasn’t been confirmed. Given the visible wear on the surrounding pavement, additional phases of the project seem likely in the coming days. Whether similar repaving efforts are planned at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney Springs also remains to be seen.
