Disney World Pulls Haunted Mansion’s Most Legendary Moment
Every Disney attraction has a moment that fans look forward to most.
For Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s the drop. For “it’s a small world,” it’s the unforgettable song. And for Haunted Mansion, many guests would argue the experience truly starts inside the Stretching Room.

That legendary pre-show has become one of the most recognizable scenes at Walt Disney World, but guests visiting Magic Kingdom today are discovering they won’t get to experience it in its usual form.
Because of technical difficulties, Disney has temporarily suspended the Stretching Room presentation, sending visitors directly toward the attraction instead.
An Opening Scene That Defined Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion has been entertaining guests since Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, remaining one of the park’s most beloved attractions through decades of change.
Part of its lasting popularity comes from its storytelling.
Rather than immediately placing guests on the ride, Disney slowly builds suspense from the moment visitors enter the mansion. The Stretching Room serves as the attraction’s opening act, introducing the Ghost Host while the room appears to expand and portraits reveal increasingly unsettling details.
The experience has become so iconic that countless fans can recite the narration from memory.
It’s one of the rare Disney attractions where the pre-show feels every bit as important as the ride itself.
Haunted Mansion Is Still Operating
Fortunately, guests aren’t losing access to the attraction altogether.
Haunted Mansion continues operating throughout the day, with visitors simply bypassing the Stretching Room presentation before boarding their Doom Buggies.
Everything that follows—including the Endless Hallway, Madame Leota, the ballroom, the attic bride, and the graveyard celebration—remains part of the experience.

For first-time guests, the difference may not seem significant.
For returning visitors, however, skipping the Stretching Room noticeably changes the attraction’s pacing and atmosphere.
Disney Imagineers intentionally created that room to ease guests into the haunted world waiting beyond its doors. Without it, the transition happens much faster than originally intended.
Disney Fans Immediately Took Notice
Whenever something changes at a classic Disney attraction, speculation spreads quickly online, and Tuesday was no exception.
Some visitors questioned whether the attraction’s famous hanging figure had been removed, but reports from Magic Kingdom indicate that’s not the case. The effect remains inside the room, and the temporary closure is tied only to technical issues affecting the pre-show.

The timing also comes while Haunted Mansion’s exterior continues undergoing refurbishment, though that project is focused primarily on maintaining the building rather than changing the attraction itself.
While Disney works behind the scenes to restore normal operations, guests can still ride Haunted Mansion as usual. Even so, they’ll miss one of the attraction’s defining moments—a scene that has introduced millions of visitors to the Ghost Host and helped make Haunted Mansion one of the most beloved experiences in Disney Parks history.
