Disney World Quietly Overhauls Haunted Mansion Building, Ride Remains Open

A structure tied to the Haunted Mansion queue at Magic Kingdom Park has quietly transformed from an exposed steel framework into a fully enclosed building over the past week.

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the steel framework first spotted roughly a week ago on a building across from Memento Mori has now been completely enclosed by construction crews. The building has long functioned as an extension of the Haunted Mansion queue, and the original framework — which included a roofline and an arch-shaped window opening — is still visible for now, though it’s expected to be covered up as the project moves forward.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t said what purpose the finished building will ultimately serve. Its location, near the former edge of the Rivers of America, places it squarely within the footprint affected by the broader Frontierland transformation currently underway. Whether it remains tied to the Haunted Mansion experience or gets folded into the incoming Piston Peak National Park expansion is still an open question.

The Bigger Refurbishment Behind It

This building work is part of a much larger exterior refresh that has kept the Haunted Mansion wrapped in scaffolding and a themed scrim for several months. Some of that scaffolding has recently come down, revealing a freshly repainted cupola finished in a metallic green that ties into other refreshed details across the 54-year-old attraction’s exterior.

The connection to Piston Peak National Park — the Cars (2006)-inspired land under construction in Frontierland — and the separately planned Disney Villains land beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad seems likely, though Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t confirmed it outright. Early signs point toward previously backstage portions of the Haunted Mansion becoming visible to guests once those new areas eventually open.

What hasn’t changed throughout any of this is guest access to the ride itself. The Haunted Mansion remains fully open at Magic Kingdom Park, and Walt Disney World Resort has given no indication of a temporary closure despite ongoing construction around it.
