Disney World Announces 2 Magic Kingdom Refurbishments Ahead of Busy Holiday Season
Magic Kingdom visitors have two upcoming refurbishment dates to keep on their radar, particularly if they’re heading to Walt Disney World this fall or during the beginning of the holiday season.
Disney has scheduled temporary closures for both the Walt Disney World Railroad and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Although the refurbishments begin more than a month apart, their schedules could potentially overlap.
The Walt Disney World Railroad will be the first to close, with its refurbishment beginning September 28, 2026. Disney expects the attraction to return sometime in November.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will then close beginning November 2, with its reopening currently expected sometime in December.
Neither attraction has received an exact reopening date, making these closures especially important for guests with November vacations.
Walt Disney World Railroad Temporarily Stops Running
Beginning September 28, guests won’t be able to ride the Walt Disney World Railroad while Disney completes routine refurbishment work.
The railroad has already been operating differently because of the major construction happening around Magic Kingdom.
With Disney developing Piston Peak National Park in the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area, the railroad currently operates as a shuttle between Main Street Station and Fantasyland Station rather than completing its traditional journey around the park.
That modified service will stop entirely during the refurbishment.
However, Disney will continue using portions of the attraction.
Main Street Train Station is expected to remain available for parade and fireworks viewing. Storybook Circus Station will also remain accessible for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party activities.
Disney currently expects trains to start running again sometime in November.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Follows in November
The second refurbishment starts November 2, when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure temporarily closes.
Disney expects the Frontierland attraction to reopen sometime in December, although the company hasn’t announced exactly when that will happen.
The timing could affect guests visiting during one of Walt Disney World’s biggest seasonal transitions.
By November, Halloween festivities are wrapping up and Christmas celebrations are getting underway. Magic Kingdom will welcome guests for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, while holiday offerings will appear throughout the resort.
Visitors who haven’t experienced Tiana’s Bayou Adventure yet should pay particularly close attention to the closure.
The attraction opened in 2024 after replacing Splash Mountain and quickly became an important part of Magic Kingdom’s lineup.
Could Both Attractions Be Closed?
There’s also a chance these two refurbishment schedules will briefly cross.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes November 2, but Disney has only said the Walt Disney World Railroad will return sometime in November.
If the railroad isn’t operating again by November 2, both attractions could temporarily be unavailable.
That possibility makes early November the most important period to watch.
Disney could announce a railroad reopening date that eliminates or significantly reduces the overlap. Until then, guests shouldn’t assume either attraction will be available without checking the latest operating schedule.
Both refurbishments are temporary, and Disney expects each attraction to return before the end of 2026.
Still, anyone visiting Magic Kingdom this fall should remember two important dates: September 28 for the Walt Disney World Railroad and November 2 for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Those closures could affect how guests plan their Magic Kingdom days, especially as Walt Disney World enters its busy holiday season.
