Disney World Alert: 7 New Guest Rules Take Effect Across Parks and Resorts in 2026

Planning a Disney World trip in 2026 now comes with a few more details guests need to know before they arrive.

Beyond checking park hours, ride closures, dining reservations, and Lightning Lane plans, visitors also need to keep up with several new rules and operating procedures across the resort. Some create new restrictions, while others give Disney a firmer way to enforce existing policies.

Either way, guests may find that certain things no longer work the way they did on previous vacations.

Here are seven rules now affecting Disney transportation, resort benefits, merchandise releases, Disney Vacation Club, attraction queues, outside businesses, and Disney Gift Cards.

Disney Springs Transportation Has New Requirements

Guests can no longer assume they can leave Disney Springs and take resort transportation anywhere they choose.

Disney changed its transportation policy in June 2026, adding eligibility requirements for buses and boats traveling from Disney Springs to Disney Resort hotels.

Guests staying at Disney hotels can qualify, along with visitors who have eligible dining or experience reservations at the resort they plan to visit. Cast Members may check reservations before allowing guests to board.

That creates a clear new access rule. Being at Disney Springs by itself no longer guarantees access to resort-bound transportation.

Merchandise Release Mornings Now Have a Firm Start Time

Disney Springs also tightened its approach to guests arriving early for popular merchandise releases.

Overnight stays inside parking structures were already prohibited, but Disney now has a much clearer way to prevent guests from lining up too early.

On merchandise-release mornings, Disney Springs parking garages and rideshare loops remain closed until 7 a.m. Guests who arrive before then or attempt to stay overnight can be told to leave.

The old overnight restriction remains, but the 7 a.m. opening time introduces a new operating rule collectors must follow.

The Free Water Park Benefit Is Limited to Summer

Disney Resort guests also face a new eligibility rule involving complimentary water park admission.

Disney introduced free water park admission on a guest’s hotel check-in day in 2025. For 2026, Disney narrowed the window during which guests can receive that perk.

Eligible check-in dates now run from May 26 through September 8, 2026.

Guests arriving during that window can receive complimentary check-in-day admission to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Those checking in outside the eligible period do not receive the same benefit.

Disney kept the perk, but it now comes with a seasonal restriction.

Disney Vacation Club Rentals Face Tighter Limits

Disney Vacation Club members also have stricter guidelines to consider this year.

Members can still rent unused points or reservations, but Disney clarified its commercial-use policy in March 2026.

The company can take action against members who repeatedly use their memberships for rental businesses. Possible consequences include restrictions on banking, borrowing, or transferring points, loss of access to certain online features, and cancellation of future reservations.

Occasional rentals remain allowed. The tighter rule focuses on repeated commercial activity.

Disney Is Enforcing Its Rules Against Outside Businesses

Disney also became more aggressive in enforcing rules against unauthorized businesses operating on resort property.

Unauthorized commercial activity was already against Disney rules, but enforcement increased in January 2026 when Disney began issuing cease-and-desist notices to third-party operators.

That matters to guests who previously used outside companies for services at Disney hotels or elsewhere on property.

Those businesses can no longer assume Disney will allow them to continue operating the same way. The underlying policy isn’t new, but Disney is enforcing it much more firmly.

Cosmic Rewind Has New Crowd-Control Procedures

Guests at EPCOT may also notice different rules inside the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind queue.

The transition out of the attraction’s pre-show has sometimes caused crowding as guests move toward the next area.

Disney has responded by testing procedures that allow Cast Members to hold groups, form lanes, and control when guests move forward.

There was no single announcement establishing a permanent rule for Cosmic Rewind. Still, the practical expectation is simple: guests should follow cast member directions rather than rushing out of the pre-show.

Disney Gift Cards Work Differently in the App

One of the newest changes is much more convenient.

Disney updated My Disney Experience in June so that eligible Disney Gift Cards can remain saved for future purchases.

Previously, guests often had to re-enter their card information when completing purchases, such as mobile food orders. Saved eligible cards can now remain available for later transactions.

It works differently from an access restriction, but it still creates a new system rule for how Disney handles Gift Card payments.

Guests Should Expect Disney World to Operate Differently

These seven rules don’t all affect guests in the same way.

Some restrict access, some determine eligibility, and others give Disney stronger ways to control how existing policies work in practice.

Together, they show why visitors shouldn’t assume Disney World still operates exactly as it did during their last trip.

Knowing the rules before arriving could help guests avoid transportation problems, missed benefits, merchandise issues, and other unexpected complications during a 2026 vacation.
