In an unfortunate turn of events, The Walt Disney Company appears to have another major scandal on its hands. This week, fans are outraged and disgusted after footage showing a fly-infested food option went viral within the Disney community. Disney Parks and the Disney Cruise Lines are normally applauded for their exceptional food standards, so this reported slip in quality is enough to make many fans feel queasy.
Making the story even more dramatic, this food service takes place at Lookout Cay, a newly opened section at Lighthouse Point, which is one of Disney’s private ports in the Bahamas. Lookout Cay is known for its stunning views and serene atmosphere. The island area is set to be a popular destination for tourists seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Unfortunately, this recent scandal has significantly tainted the reputation of this new Disney offering. As more information emerges, Disney fans are looking to the company to respond to this unsettling situation.

Controversy Encircles Disney’s New Tropical Escape
Disney’s Lookout Cay, situated at Lighthouse Point, is a captivating destination that promises enchanting experiences for travelers. After opening its doors on June 10, this secluded paradise eagerly anticipates the arrival of passengers embarking on specific Disney Cruise Line voyages.
Amidst the azure waters and pristine beaches, Lookout Cay stands as a beacon of adventure and relaxation, offering a unique blend of Disney magic and natural beauty. Guests can look forward to immersing themselves in the Bahamian culture, savoring delicious cuisine, renting beachside cabanas on the Lighthouse Point beach, and partaking in exciting port adventures tailored for all ages.
As visitors step onto the island, they are greeted by the warm Bahamian hospitality and the unmistakable charm of a Disney vacation. Lookout Cay is not just a stop on the itinerary; it’s a haven where families can create lasting memories surrounded by the splendor of the Caribbean. However, not all elements of this island retreat are making Disney fans feel excited.
Fans Concerned Over Food Sanitation
In the sweltering heat of the Bahamas, it seems that Disney is dealing with a pretty serious issue: flies. In a recent video post made by an early guest reportedly visiting the Disney Cruise Line Lookout Cay location, flies can be seen embedding themselves into one food option served on the island.
Usually not a fan of overreacting to stuff during its initial opening, but this is absolutely a terrible oversight by DCL & not okay in any circumstance. Just a massive miss in operations/planning/oversight https://t.co/YMGZUdtdVY

Immediately after the video was posted, Disney fans were sent into a flurry over the disturbing footage. According to a FaceBook group of ship guests, the flies were a much bigger issue than this one video shows. One guest reports:
“We do not plan to get off of the ship when it stops here again in a few days.Â
Way too many issues (especially the flies… they were even excessive on the balconies on the ship) and too many things were either not available (even though advertised), broken, or not working, or were severely limited. It seemed from about noon, it was a constant flow of people coming back to the ship. That’s not a good sign, especially when it’s a new to everyone place to be. We left the island ourselves at 2:15 because we had enough. So many excursions were canceled or swapped with something subpar to what was purchased.Â
The staff were amazing and deserve a lot of kudos for doing everything they could to still make it as enjoyable as possible. But for now, our family plans to avoid this port for at least a year or two in order to allow all of the issues to be worked out and for the construction to finish. In my opinion, Disney should have held off on opening.”
It is extremely sad to see that so many guests had such a negative experience aboard this island getaway. It certainly seems like a far cry from the cleanliness guests expect at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, or other Disney Cruise Line locations like Castaway Cay.
Unfortunately, this is not the only scandal for the Disney Cruise Line. Just last week, a ship guest was arrested after Federal agents found child sexual abuse material on his personal device. Overall, this has not been a great week for the cruise line in the news.
Many fans are hopeful that Disney will be able to mend the fly issue and get back to providing the Disney fun that the company is known for. We wish the best of luck to the cast members and island teams to help solve this situation as quickly as possible.
If this is the new island location on Eleuthera I am not surprised. Was there last year on the Princess section and the flies were horrid. Will not be choosing that itinerary on any Cruise line.
