Disney Reveals the Missing Piece of Animal Kingdom’s Newest Land
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is changing fast.
Over the past year, fans have watched construction move forward on Tropical Americas, the ambitious new land replacing DinoLand U.S.A. While Disney has already confirmed major attractions inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones, there has still been one lingering question surrounding the project: what else will fill out the land beyond the headline rides?
Now, Disney has provided another answer.

A newly filed permit suggests Disney is moving forward with plans for a playground area inside Tropical Americas, adding what could become one of the most useful family-friendly spaces in the entire park.
More Than Just Two Attractions
Most of the attention surrounding Tropical Americas has focused on the land’s two biggest draws.
The first is the new Encanto attraction, which will bring guests into the world of the Madrigal family. The second is the Indiana Jones adventure that will replace DINOSAUR, giving Animal Kingdom a new take on the popular franchise while utilizing the existing ride system.
Those attractions alone would make Tropical Americas one of Disney World’s biggest projects of the decade.
But successful theme park lands need more than rides.
They need places to explore, relax, and spend time between attractions. That’s where Disney’s latest permit becomes interesting.
A Playground Is Officially Moving Forward
Disney Imagineering recently filed a permit connected to a playground contractor, confirming continued work on a playground that Disney has previously mentioned as part of Tropical Americas. Earlier planning documents suggested the area would feature slides and climbing structures and be located near the current Cretaceous Trail area.
For some fans, that announcement may not seem particularly exciting.
For parents, however, it could become one of the most appreciated additions in the entire expansion.
Animal Kingdom remains one of Disney World’s most beautiful parks, but it has never offered many dedicated places where younger children can simply run around and play.

Animal Kingdom Has a Unique Challenge
Every Disney park serves families differently.
Magic Kingdom is packed with attractions for all ages. EPCOT offers large open spaces and interactive areas throughout the park. Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues adding family-focused entertainment.
Animal Kingdom, meanwhile, focuses heavily on attractions, animal exhibits, and immersive environments.
That creates a challenge for parents visiting with toddlers.
There aren’t many locations where children can safely burn off energy without standing in another queue or sitting through a show.
A dedicated playground helps solve that problem.
Could Disney Add Water Features?
Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what the playground will include.
However, many fans are already hoping the project goes beyond slides and climbing structures.
Animal Kingdom can be one of the hottest parks on Walt Disney World property, particularly during the summer. While there are plenty of shaded areas and indoor attractions, there are very few places where younger guests can actively cool down.
If Disney includes splash elements, misting features, fountains, or other water-play experiences, the playground could become a must-visit destination for families.
Even a modest water component would help address one of the park’s biggest needs.
Tropical Americas Is Becoming a Complete Land
What makes Disney’s latest reveal important isn’t necessarily the playground itself.
It’s what the addition says about Tropical Americas as a whole.
The project is no longer just a collection of major rides. It’s becoming a fully realized land designed for guests of different ages and interests.
Between Encanto, Indiana Jones, new themed environments, dining locations, and now a dedicated play area, Tropical Americas is beginning to look like one of the most balanced expansions Disney has built in years.
The rides will attract the headlines.
The playground may end up winning over families.
And when Tropical Americas finally opens, many guests may discover that the “missing piece” wasn’t another attraction at all. It was a place where kids could simply be kids.
