In 2022, Chris Evans will be going to infinity and beyond, and Disney has just shown us how in the newly released trailer for Lightyear.
Lightyear will focus not on the toy Space Ranger that fans have come to know and love since he was introduced to the world in the 1995 film Toy Story and voiced by Tim Allen. Instead, the film will feature Evans as Buzz Lightyear, the “real-life” astronaut who became the inspiration for one of the world’s most popular toys — and the toy that caused Sheriff Woody so much angst.
In the trailer, we see the “real-life” Lightyear as he boards a ship and launches into a dangerous journey into outer space. We see the astronaut learn about space and aliens from an incredibly intelligent robot. In the trailer’s final moments we see Lightyear see his new spacesuit, which will become Buzz Lightyear’s iconic look, and what would the trailer be without Buzz’s most famous saying?
You can watch the trailer below and get goosebumps, just like we did!
In celebration of the trailer’s release, star Chris Evans released the following statement on Twitter, along with an excerpt from an interview that he had done.
Animated movie were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams.
They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing.
