As you probably know, this past weekend was Disney’s ultimate fan event — the D23 Expo. The Expo was held in Anaheim, California, right by Disneyland Resort, and featured many great panels and a lot of information was revealed. And we mean A LOT. From trailers for upcoming movies like The Little Mermaid and The Santa Clauses to announcing that Happily Ever After would be coming back to the Magic Kingdom and the Magic Happens parade will be returning to Disneyland Park next year.
During the Parks and Experiences panel that took place on Sunday, September 11, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared that one theme park would be getting a brand-new area themed after San Fransokyo, from the hit 2014 film, Big Hero 6. That’s right. Disney will soon start construction of the new area at Disney’s California Adventure Park, changing the area from a San Francisco pier, to an ultra-modern San Fransokyo.
More information was shared by Disney Parks Blog, which said that the Pacific Wharf area of the Park — which includes eateries like the Pacific Wharf Café, Cocina Cucamonga, the Lucky Fortune Cookery, and Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop — will be completely transformed. The area will feature new dining locations, new shopping locations, and a place to meet Baymax!
Pacific Wharf in Disney California Adventure park, which evokes San Francisco’s waterfront, will be reimagined into San Fransokyo from “Big Hero 6,” where East meets West, and technology meets tradition. Imagineers are in the early phases of this work, but you can see glimpses of what’s to come for children of all ages – the young and young at heart. There will be a place to meet Baymax, plus new spots to eat and shop!
This is not the first time in recent years that the pier area of Disney California Adventure has undergone serious construction. Several years ago, Disney shut down the Paradise Pier area of the theme park — which Paradise Wharf leads into — and completely transformed it into Pixar Pier. Pixar Pier is where Guets can find attractions like Toy Story Midway Mania, the Incredicoaster, Jessie’s Critter Round-Up, as well as the shopping location Bing Bong’s Sweet Shop. Changing Paradise Wharf into San Fransokyo will further enhance the Pixar feel that Disney is giving the Park.
Disney has not said when construction will begin on this gorgeous new project. Disney Dining will keep you updated as we learn more!
