Disney Icon Ready to Return if ABC Reboots Fan-Favorite Fairy Tale Series

It’s been more than a decade since ABC introduced audiences to a world where fairy tales collided with modern reality, and for many fans, the magic of that show has never really faded. Over its seven-year run, the fantasy drama Once Upon a Time became a comforting Sunday night tradition, transporting viewers to a town called Storybrooke and reimagining beloved Disney characters in ways that were both bold and nostalgic.

Even though the final episode aired in 2018, love for the series hasn’t waned. From fan conventions and online retrospectives to social media threads speculating about a revival, Once Upon a Time still holds a special place in the hearts of Disney fans and TV lovers alike.

With the ongoing wave of reboots and revivals across Hollywood, many have wondered if this magical series might be next.

Now, it seems that if the opportunity ever arises, one of the show’s original stars would be more than ready to return.

Once Upon a Time premiered in 2011 and quickly became a standout hit for ABC. Created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz—writers behind the hit series Lost—the show blended classic fairytale stories with original storytelling.

Characters like Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumpelstiltskin, and the Evil Queen were reimagined and placed in the real world under the influence of a powerful curse, their memories erased and their destinies upended.

The show built a loyal following over its first several seasons, but after multiple cast departures and a rebooted final season, ABC canceled the series in 2018. While the conclusion left many storylines wrapped up, it also left fans wishing for a proper return to Storybrooke.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, actress Ginnifer Goodwin—who played Snow White (aka Mary Margaret Blanchard)—shared her thoughts on a potential revival and made it clear she would be on board:

“I hear these rumors as well [about a reboot], and I am available if they [want to do that],” Goodwin said. “I mean, I live around the corner from the creator, so I’m sure I’ll hear things.”

“I’d love to go back. My whole life is kind of built around it. I mean, I married Prince Charming. His babies are my babies,” she added, referring to husband Josh Dallas, whom she met on the OUAT set and now shares two children with.

Goodwin’s real-life fairytale romance with co-star Josh Dallas (Prince Charming/David Nolan) is one of the series’ most heartwarming legacies. The pair fell in love during filming and have remained one of Disney fandom’s most beloved off-screen couples.

While Goodwin appears more than ready to step back into the role of Snow White, she’s not the only one. Colin O’Donoghue, who portrayed fan-favorite Captain Hook, has also expressed openness to returning if a reboot were to happen.

Jennifer Morrison, who played Emma Swan, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, has also spoken positively about the idea of revisiting the show. Morrison said she would be open to directing episodes of a reboot, though she thinks the focus should shift to new characters.

Once Upon a Time was no stranger to expansion. In 2013, Disney launched a short-lived spinoff, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, but the series failed to capture the same audience and was canceled after one season. Still, the appetite for the franchise has never truly disappeared, and with many of the actors still active in the Disney family, the timing might finally be right.

Since OUAT ended, Goodwin has continued to work with Disney. She voiced Judy Hopps in the hit animated film Zootopia (2016), returned for the Disney+ spinoff Zootopia+, and lent her voice to the 2023 animated short Once Upon a Studio, which celebrated Disney’s 100-year legacy. She is also set to return in Zootopia 2, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 26, 2025.
