If you’re a Disney fan, you’ve probably been keeping tabs on the live-action Lilo and Stitch movie.
We’re happy to report another update regarding the live-action remake’s cast: according to an article by the Hollywood Reporter, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong has joined the Lilo and Stitch ohana as Nani Pelekai, Lilo’s older sister and legal guardian.

Sydney Agudong is an actress and singer who was born and raised in Hawai’i. Not only does she look the part, but her background as a performer and a native Hawaiian both bode well for the upcoming live-action remake.
Fun fact about the original movie: much of the cast were also native Hawaiians, and it’s been said that they even adjusted the script to make it sound more realistic and authentic in regards to the film’s setting. Hopefully, the Walt Disney Company similarly takes authenticity into account from its cast for this adaptation.
At just nineteen years old, Nani is suddenly thrust into the role of legal guardian after the tragic death of her and Lilo’s parents. It’s heavily implied that she also gave up a potential career in competitive surfing in order to support herself and her little sister.
While she gets off on the wrong foot with Stitch at first, she eventually grows to welcome him into the ohana.
Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch is scheduled for 2024, but the original film can be found on Disney Plus (stylized as Disney+).
