Disney Receives Backlash for Poor Resort Upkeep

Road signs throughout Walt Disney World Resort are showing noticeable signs of wear and tear, including severe sun damage, which has led to growing frustration among Disney fans.

The deteriorating condition of these signs has become a focal point of criticism directed at the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), the governing body that recently replaced the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) under the direction of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The road signs, vital for navigating the vast expanse of the resort, are increasingly difficult to read due to fading and other damage attributed to the intense Florida sun. This deterioration has led many visitors and Disney enthusiasts to express their dissatisfaction, attributing the problem to the oversight of the CFTOD.

“All the signs are in bad shape and need replacing. They are very important to help tourists know where they are going and avoid car accidents and us locals / cast members hate being stuck behind a tourist driving 5 miles an hour because they are lost and confused.”

CFTOD Fails to Win Fans Over

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District was established earlier this year, taking over from the Reedy Creek Improvement District as part of a broader restructuring effort mandated by Governor DeSantis. This change aimed to increase state control over the operations of Walt Disney World Resort, but it has faced its share of challenges.

The transition from RCID to CFTOD has been closely watched, with many observers questioning how the new oversight would affect the resort’s operations and maintenance standards. The current situation with the road signs is fueling concerns about whether the CFTOD is meeting expectations in managing the resort’s extensive infrastructure.

As Disney fans and visitors await improvements, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District faces increased pressure to restore the signage to its former condition and ensure that such maintenance issues do not become a recurring problem.

  1. It intentional on the part of desantis. He trying to undermine Disney, while putting on a “play nice” face. (IMO)

  2. How can this be blamed on the new CFTOD when they’ve only been in existence for less than a year? I’m sure these signs were in perfect condition while under the jurisdiction of Reedy Creek, and only started to fade when CFTPD took over. I’m guessing Reedy Creek is more responsible for the signs’ condition, and like the rest of Disney Parks, maintenance was ignored to save costs!

  3. I have been saying for decades that the purple signage was awful. But moreso, why have they not added solar lighting to the signs (like regular traffic signs)? They are hard to read from afar and so dark as you get near that it’s no wonder there are not more accidents caused by tourists.
