“Everything the Light Touches”
The Walt Disney Company is notorious for the many acquisitions it has transacted over the years. Disney CEO Bob Iger is well-versed in the art, make no mistake.
From the purchase of Pixar in 2006 and Marvel in 2009 to the acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012 and 21st Century Fox in 2019, Disney is no stranger to business partnerships. But despite the appearance of Disney owning nearly “everything the light touches,” the company doesn’t seek to acquire every company with which it strikes a partnership.
Disney and Coca-Cola have enjoyed a partnership for more than 80 years, but there have been no intentions on Disney’s part to acquire Coca-Cola. The partnership between the two over the years has brought about the development of commemorative and custom plastic Coke bottles only available at kiosks and food carts in the parks, special events in the parks sponsored by Coca-Cola, and even the multi-story Coca-Cola store at Disney Springs, featuring a rooftop bar where guests can purchase seemingly endless flavors of Coca-Cola beverages.
The Club Cool location at EPCOT, which features the legendary Beverly soda and other popular beverages around the world, is also sponsored by Coca-Cola and offers a selection of Coca-Cola-themed merchandise for purchase as well.
But while it makes perfect sense to Disney World theme parks guests that Disney would partner with a beverage company, a partnership between Disney and a luxury brand that began in 2016 had some fans scratching their heads.
A Luxury Partnership
In June 2016, Disney announced its partnership with Coach. The collaboration yielded the Disney x COACH line of limited-edition merchandise featuring Disney characters and designs on Coach leather goods and apparel. The collection originally debuted at a Coach store in Soho, New York, and at Colette, a famous shop on rue St. Honore in Paris, France. One week later, the line could be found at Coach stores and at coach.com.
“This collaboration brings together two iconic brands in fresh yet timeless designs that celebrate the heritage and style of both Mickey and Coach,” said Josh Silverman, then-Executive Vice President of Global Licensing for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “This incredible collection is sure to delight the fashion world and Disney fans alike.”
The Disney/COACH partnership is still going strong today, as Disney-inspired offerings can be found at locations inside the Walt Disney World Resort, including the Coach store at Disney Springs and online at shopDisney.com.
But Coach is a luxury brand, meaning its merchandise is made of higher-quality materials. Painstaking detail is taken in the craftsmanship of pieces in any Coach collection, including the Disney x Coach line. As such, Coach merchandise found in the parks is generally more expensive than comparable Disney World merchandise and souvenir items, and that includes Mickey ears.
Yes, the Disney x COACH line includes Mickey ears–fairly expensive Mickey ears. In fact, a collection released in the fall of 2022 highlighted a pair of black Mickey ears that featured a retro version of the Walt Disney World logo on one ear.
The Mickey ears were made of black leather and retailed for $295 in the parks and online. It sounds unbelievable–a pair of Mickey ears for nearly $300.
Mickey Ears, 96% Off!
Now, however, the ears are reportedly being sold for a fraction of that price, but fans who want them will have to drive to Orlando to get them.

The Disney x COACH Mickey ears are selling for only $12 per pair–a discount of nearly 96%, or $283 off, at the Character Warehouse, located at Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets. But because the ears are selling at an outlet store, supplies are limited, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
So if you’re looking for a $300 pair of Mickey ears–but you don’t want to pay $300–run, don’t walk, to the Character Warehouse in Orlando before they’re gone completely!
