Superheroes they’re just like us, right? Marvel’s first Avenger, Captain America, admitted that he is too intimidated by Saturday Night Live to ever host the show. Chris Evans opened up about his anxiety around hosting an episode of the long-running sketch show on NBC.
Evans is currently promoting his new film Ghosted with co-star Ana de Armas. In an interview with ET Canada, he went on record saying that he has “avoided hosting ‘SNL’ like the plague” because it’s “terrifying.” The topic arose because Ana de Armas hosted Saturday Night Live on April 15th with musical guest Karol G. Evans applauded de Armas’ bravery in signing up for the job and expressed his total faith in her to do an “amazing” job.
Evans explained,
I just know how I would feel… it would just be an everyday anxiety, constant regret. Why did I do this? I could have been comfortable at my house, in my bed, not worrying about this.
SNL does involve a ton of joke writing, long hours, and the ability to think on your feet during live television. As an actor who’s handled the responsibility of some of Marvel Studios’ top story secrets, it is surprising that Evans doesn’t feel he’s up to the task.
He later revealed that he just isn’t funny.
I’m not a funny person. Maybe I only feel that because I have very, very funny friends who once told me I’m not a funny person,” he said. “I just know how I would feel… it would just be an everyday anxiety, constant regret. Why did I do this? I could have been comfortable at my house, in my bed, not worrying about this.
Maybe Captain America is the type to lead a team of superheroes into battle but isn’t designed to carry a late-night sketch show. We all have our strengths. Even though fans may have loved to see him host the show, Chris Evans has surely won them over by humbling himself to SNL’s stage.

Don’t worry, Chris Evans and SNL fans, because he is open to doing a cameo on the show! Evans said, “A cameo sounds great, that’s perfect. In and out, a little pop, get your toes wet.”
Here’s hoping for an Avengers cast reunion on a surprise episode of Saturday Night Live!
