Cast Members Turn On Each Other In Aftershock of Disney World Closure

Even the biggest and most widely celebrated entertainment entity in the world can misjudge the success of its offerings. The Walt Disney Company proved this with an underwhelming response to their Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel.

The uniquely immersive Star Wars hotel experience only lasted about two years before The Walt Disney Company decided it would shut down in September 2023. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro stated, “It didn’t perform exactly how we wanted it to perform.”

Guests weren’t the only ones saddened by the announcement however, Cast Members were also gutted by the news – especially those assigned to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel. Dozens took to social media and expressed two opposing viewpoints.

Some Cast Members were quick to express the predictability of the Galactic Starcruiser closure with sentiments of, “I told you so.”

Whether it was due to the high cost of booking – about $2,500 per night, or the high cost of keeping it running, Cast Members on the inside seemed to know the Galactic Starcruiser Adventure wasn’t sustainable.

Even if Cast Members could tell the future of this Walt Disney Resort hotel, those who worked at the Galactic Starcruiser experience are now struggling to tell their own.

A Cast Member from the Halcyon Starcruiser posted on social media, “Honestly, nobody cares that you ‘called it’ or ‘saw that coming’” and goes on to call other Cast Members “tone-deaf” and “disrespectful” for celebrating the closure. The post is signed “Sincerely, your friends and coworkers who are absolutely gutted and don’t know what tomorrow holds for them.”

Another Cast Member responded to their colleagues bragging that the wildly expensive rates were what killed the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

Stating that fact doesn’t make you right or knowledgeable about the experience in its entirety. Give people the time they need to process this without filling up their feed with pointless and emotionless statements on why hundreds of people lost their jobs, literally minutes before you found out.

Sometimes even the highest-rated Guest experiences get cut because higher-ups in The Walt Disney Company feel it isn’t making enough money. Moments like this can be very emotional for Cast Members who dedicate themselves to the story and world of the offering, and triggering for Cast Members on the outside looking in.

In reference to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Cast Members, the Disney website states:

We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months.

Whether you’re a true Star Wars fan, a Disney World frequent Guest, or even a Walt Disney World Cast Member, it’s clear that the Galactic Starcruiser will be missed.

No plans are confirmed as to what Disney will do with the location, currently in the Hollywood Studios’ theme park.
