Disney Dining Brown Derby Lounge Review
The new Brown Derby Lounge is the place to see and be seen on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Opened on October 30, 2013, the Brown Derby Lounge offers guests an opportunity to savor delicious appetizers and indulge in specialty cocktails, wine, and spirits right in the middle of Hollywood.
The lounge opens at noon and closes with the park, but seating is first come, first served, so walk in and grab a table. Tables vary from high tops that seat two to four people or larger round tables that seat five or six. Indoor seating is also available. Peruse the menu of chef created appetizers inspired by Brown Derby favorites and specialty drinks like the Shelby Mayor and the Jack Diamond named after the Studios’ own Citizens of Hollywood.
The lounge offers a selection of unique appetizers like the Derby Sliders – a Wagyu beef slider with cognac-mustard aioli, smoked gouda cheese, bacon, and avocado accompanied by a slider of house-made chorizo with pickles, chipotle mayo, manchego cheese, and crispy onions. Other options include a cheese and charcuterie board, artisanal cheese plate, Duck Confit Tacos, Prince Edward Island Mussels, and the Derby Cocktail – Jumbo Lump Crab and Black Tiger Shrimp with avocado and a horseradish-tomato juice.

The Derby Sliders came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. The beef slider was juicy and the crunchy bacon, creamy avocado, and smoky cheese complimented one another with every bite. The chorizo slider was a little on the runny side between the chorizo grease and the mayo, but the pickles and crispy onions took the slider to an unexpected level of texture and taste. The sliders come with fried potato crunchies that are lightly salted and make a nice palate cleanser.
For dessert, choices include Chocolate Three Ways, a Banana-White Chocolate Toffee Tower on a Cocoa-Almond Cookie and Bananas Foster, and Strawberry Champagne Cheesecake with Macerated Strawberries and Dark Chocolate Caviar Crisps.
Drinks available include everything from specialty cocktails to martini flights to wine and beer and after-dinner coffees. Try a citrusy, but strong Mint Gimlet or a margarita flight. Designated drivers or those under 21 can sip on a Shirley Temple (a Brown Derby classic) or a Mimi Ka-boom – a refreshing mix of mint, fresh lime juice, agave nectar-pineapple juice, and soda water.
The luxurious black tablecloths and deep red umbrellas transport guests back to the golden era of Hollywood as they watch the sights and sounds of Hollywood Boulevard, maybe even spotting some of the Citizens of Hollywood vying for attention and accolades. The high-top seating on the patio is ideal for watching the crowds flow by while sipping on a smooth, refreshing cocktail.
The quality of service at the Brown Derby is as high as the quality of the top-notch food. The friendly and knowledgeable tuxedo clad servers are readily available and highly accommodating. In addition to the appetizer and drink menu, guests may order off of the Hollywood Brown Derby menu, if desired, just ask the server.
The lounge does not accept the Disney Dining Plan at this time. However, discounts for Tables in Wonderland and Disney Visa cardholders can be applied.
