Ever wonder what it takes to get into Marvel Superhero shape? Taking a look at Brie Larson’s social media from around the time The Marvels was shooting, may give you some pretty serious insight.
When you think of ‘Avengers-physique,’ you think of strength, fitness, and agility. These abilities may come naturally, or supernaturally, to characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but actors have to be creative in order to get on their level. Brie Larson refused “conventional workouts” while getting into Captain Marvel shape and listening to Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”.
The Marvels, the highly anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel (2019), stars Larson as Carol Danvers and filmed principal photography from about August 2021 to November 2021. Leading up to and during this time, Brie Larson was frequently posting workout highlights on her Instagram. Celebrity fitness coach, Jason Walsh of Rise Movement, is often heard in the background cheering her on.
In April 2021, she posted “Here we go again!” and that it was “Time to start putting in the work.” Mind you this is under a video of Brie holding a full-body pull-up with her knees raised for an entire minute straight. Seems like a pretty solid starting point to me.
She does it again in May, but this time is training with heavy CHAIN links draped over her legs. In the caption, she cites Miley Cyrus as inspiration. There are over 4,000 comments, and a ton of them use fire emojis.
One week later she’s showing off a string of pull-ups, this time with only one arm! Larson is happily surprised at this accomplishment.
There’s a clip where she does one-armed push-ups to Olivia Rodrigo‘s music with the same casualness and effort it takes me to turn the pages of a book. Another shows her barefoot doing squats while lifting what looks like 135 lbs on an angle. In a later video, she increases the weight. People at this point are not only admiring her strength, but the quality of her home gym!
Can someone even explain to me what she’s doing here? I mean my quads are burning just looking at it.
How about here where she’s forearm planking with an extra 45 lbs on her back. Thank goodness for the elbow pad.
And the chains make a comeback from some weighted push-ups. Fans are impressed!
Looks like she’s kept up her workout routine even after filming wrapped. Just last summer she tried pole dancing as a new workout! Does this mean she’ll be shooting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe again soon? Or do some people truly enjoy the burn that much?
