Chapek Booed at Disney Legends Ceremony

D23 is underway and kicked off in a major way. The Disney Legends Ceremony opened the Expo with impressive Broadway performances. Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek then took the stage, where he was met with a…less than enthusiastic greeting. In fact, it was a downright chilly reception. He was booed.

We have an exclusive video of the event thanks to our Disney Dining writers at the Expo. Check it out here:

To say that Bob Chapek is unpopular would be an understatement. In fact, we don’t think we’d be exaggerating to say that he is the most disliked CEO that the Walt Disney Company has ever had. Fans clapped wildly for the Broadway performers and then immediately launched into jeers for the head of the company.

Chapek,  however, was undeterred and carried on without acknowledging the slight. In fact, he carried himself with grace and poise through an incident that would rattle most people. He had some fantastic teasers for what is to come, and enthusiastically promised that this year’s D23 will be “the most over the top yet!” he went on to say that there would be more announcements than ever, including incredible surprises coming to the parks!

At one point, he got a  little emotional when discussing his family trips to Walt Disney World every year. He encouraged guests to think about a magical moment they have had in a Disney Park that sparked something in them. He reminded listeners that was what it was all about!
