Exciting news to share on the restaurant front! Even though Walt Disney World reopened in Summer 2020, there are still several experiences that have yet to reopen. As Disney continues to hire new Cast Members however, we are seeing more and more experiences (including restaurants) return! A popular restaurant located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has remained closed since the start of the pandemic. But now, we’re learning the favorite Boma-Flavors of Africa restaurant is scheduled to reopen very soon at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!
Disney Parks took to Twitter to share the short and sweet message: “Just announced: Boma – Flavors of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will be reopening this Friday, Aug. 20! Bookings start Wednesday, Aug 18.”
While Disney has yet to give insight as to what dining choices will be returning, they did share a few new buffet-style photos which mean Boma looks like it is returning as the “Family-Friendly Buffet” we loved prior to the pandemic closure. This would be the first buffet to return instead of going to a family-style service like other previous Disney buffets that have reopened since the pandemic, such as Hollywood & Vine Restaurant at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
According to Disney’s website: “Under thatched roofs, savor vibrant flavors from over 50 African countries—along with favorite American classics. Greet your day with a cup of full-bodied Kenyan AA coffee, tropical juice, and a bountiful breakfast buffet. Selections may include made-to-order omelets, French toast bread pudding, pastries, carved ham, fresh fruit, and turkey bobotie—a type of South African quiche. At dinner, watch chefs prepare Oak roasted meats, vegetarian specialties, coastal seafood dishes, fresh salads, and house-baked pastries in the onstage kitchen. Kids can enjoy options like chicken nuggets, while Guests 21 years of age and up delight in unique South African wines—many of which are available by the glass.”
The restaurant is still listed as offering both breakfast and dinner buffets as it did prior to the pandemic. Our only request is that Disney brings back the heavenly Zebra Domes dessert (which we can see in one of the photos above)! Be sure to snag your dining reservations beginning this Wednesday. Happy dining, Disney fan!
