An item inspired by the children’s show Bluey reportedly sold out in just minutes, causing chaos at a local retailer.
In the history of children’s programming, there has yet to be a program as popular as Bluey.
The series was commissioned in 2017 by ABC Kids and BBC Studios and created by Australian animator Joe Brumm. Since the series first debuted in 2018, it has been a hit with preschoolers, older children, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and other adults–some who have no children at all.
Home Depot, Lowe’s, Bunnings, and Hammerbarn
In the United States, when you need items for home improvement, gardening, and the like, you might visit Home Depot or Lowe’s.
If you’re a member of the Heeler family on Bluey, you’ll probably visit Hammerbarn, and if you live in Australia and you’re not a member of the animated canine family, you’re likely to visit Bunnings Stores.
Bunnings Stores stock various kinds of home improvement items, hardware, gardening tools, plants, and other items for bettering and building, especially on home improvement and do-it-yourself projects around the house.
But recently, Bunnings Stores also had an inventory that included some adorable items inspired by Ludo Studio’s Bluey, and, as you might expect, the items were sold out in just minutes.
Bunnings had several of the adorable little canine gnomes that can be seen in the episodes of the hit children’s show.
In the episode of Bluey titled “Hammerbarn,” Bluey’s mum, Chilli, puts two of the little gnomes in the “trolley” that she’s pushing around the store. Bluey and her little sister Bingo are seated in the cart, and each of them takes a gnome as her husband. Bingo names her husband-gnome “Hecuba,” and Bluey names her husband-gnome “Gerald.”
Sadly, after an accidental fall from the cart, Bingo’s Hecuba crumbles into thousands of tiny pieces. Bingo later laments his passing, remembering that he used to love to eat pizza.
Some Fans Weren’t Very Lucky. For Real Life!
Some fans were lucky enough to snag a gnome or two during their visit to Bunnings. Other fans weren’t so lucky, as they were sold out in minutes.
But one fan was really lucky, as she discovered a few of the garden gnomes being used as decorations in the children’s art department at Bunnings.

Many fans of the children’s program weren’t able to snag any of the adorable little dog gnomes, and to make matters worse, as soon as the gnomes were sold out at Bunnings, they began popping up across online marketplaces after being posted by resellers. And the prices that accompany those postings are akin to extortion, per Yahoo Australia.
It’s important to note that the gnomes were selling for $19 AUD, which is equivalent to just over $12 USD.
‘Bluey’ Garden Gnomes: Sold Out and Selling for Sky-High Prices Online
Since Bluey debuted in 2018, Bunnings Warehouse stores have formed a partnership with the lovable blue heeler puppy and her family. Bunnings has also reimagined six of its Australian stores and one of its New Zealand stores into Hammerbarn stores, an obvious nod to the Season 2 episode of the fan-favorite children’s show.
A Bunnings store spokesperson confirmed that the Bluey-inspired garden gnomes were “the most sought-after product” among the Bluey-licensed merchandise at the store. The spokesperson further said that all of the floor stock was sold out.
The garden gnomes have been located on eBay, and some are selling for as much as $100 each. A set of four of the adorable gnomes was listed for $1,000, making each of the gnomes $250 apiece (in Australian dollars).
“Beware of eBay resellers,” said one user on social media.
It’s not clear whether more of the adorable gnomes will be available at Bunnings, but should another shipment become available, that information will be shared here as well.
