His career spanned nearly five decades and more than 100 film and television roles, ranging from prestige dramas to horror classics and blockbuster franchises.

Neill first gained international attention in films such as Sleeping Dogs (1977), My Brilliant Career (1979), and Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981), before cementing himself as a leading man in Dead Calm (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), and Jane Campion’s Oscar-winning drama The Piano (1993).

Genre fans embraced him through films such as In the Mouth of Madness (1994) and Event Horizon (1997), while television audiences knew him from productions including The Tudors (2007), Alcatraz (2012), and Peaky Blinders (2013–2014).

Of course, it was Jurassic Park (1993) that transformed Neill into a household name around the world. His portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant became one of the defining performances of the modern blockbuster era, leading to returns in Jurassic Park III (2001) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Cinema has lost a giant, and audiences around the world have lost one of the industry’s most enduring and charismatic screen presences.
