North Texas is about to welcome yet another theme park to the area, this time to the city of North Richland Hills, Texas.
In January, Universal Studios announced plans for a brand-new theme park resort in the city of Frisco, Texas–an announcement that didn’t sit well with many Frisco residents who fear that such a development will increase crime in the area, lower property values for residents, and make traffic in the city unbearable. After postponing a formal vote two separate times, the Frisco City Council voted to approve the zoning permit for Universal to begin construction in the area during a meeting on Tuesday evening.
Univeral’s new theme park resort is said to be geared more toward families with children, and the most recent announcements indicate that the resort will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Annual passholders will also have access to the resort outside of these hours.
The City of North Richland Hills announced this week that Hasbro and Merlin Entertainment have plans to build a 14-acre theme park along Texas Boulevard 26. It will be located next door to NRH20, a 17-acre water park in North Richland Hills.
The new Peppa Pig Theme Park will operate as a standalone theme park and feature interactive attractions, rides, shows, and playscapes, all with scenes, characters, and animated elements from the animated series beloved by children around the world.
Florida boasts the only other Peppa Pig Theme Park. Located in Winter Haven, Florida, near the Orlando area, the Florida park has a cinema, a fair, and, of course, the Daddy Pig roller coaster. It also has several other rides, including a dinosaur-themed ride, a boat ride, and others, each designed with smaller children in mind. It is also a Certified Autism Center.
“North Richland Hills is known for its family-friendly amenities and activities, [and] we could not be more thrilled to add Peppa Pig Theme Park to the mix. This will be a great addition to our community,” said North Richland Hills Mayor Oscar Trevino in a statement. “Conveniently located next door to NRH2O Family Water Park, Peppa Pig Theme Park will bring more energy to an area already known as a destination for family fun. I’m certain it will provide unforgettable entertainment that keeps families coming back again and again.”
The park is slated to open sometime in 2024, though no specific date has been announced.
