Alarm: Hundreds of Disney World Guests Warned of Mandatory Changes

Disney World is a place where magic and excitement blend seamlessly with comfort and convenience, especially for guests staying in one of Disney’s resort hotels.

Among these options, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort: French Quarter stands out for its charming atmosphere, picturesque setting along the Sassagoula River, and the ever-popular Scat Cat’s Club Café. However, if you’re planning a stay here in the coming days, you’ll want to be aware of some scheduled maintenance that could affect your experience.

Starting Thursday, October 17, and continuing through Wednesday, October 23, the French Quarter will undergo fire alarm testing as part of the resort’s ongoing refurbishment. This means guests could hear loud ringing or music between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on specific dates: Thursday, October 17; Friday, October 18; Monday, October 21; Tuesday, October 22; and Wednesday, October 23. While these sounds might be jarring, there’s no need to panic—they’re part of a scheduled test and don’t require any action on your part.

For guests planning to be out and about in the parks during these times, this warning may not pose much of an issue. But if you were thinking about taking a break to relax in your room or spend a quiet day at the resort, it might be helpful to keep this in mind and adjust your plans accordingly. The noise could be disruptive if you’re trying to unwind, so consider scheduling your resort downtime for the evening, or head over to nearby Disney Springs for a change of scenery.

Thankfully, Disney has taken steps to inform guests well in advance, with clear signage posted around the resort and notifications provided at check-in. If you’re unsure about how this might affect your stay, feel free to ask a Cast Member for more details—they’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Despite this brief disruption, Port Orleans Resort: French Quarter remains a beloved choice for many Disney visitors, thanks to its laid-back vibe, quaint cobblestone streets, and easy access to both Disney Springs and the theme parks. Once the refurbishment is complete, guests will get to enjoy freshened-up rooms and improved amenities, making the French Quarter even more magical. In the meantime, a little noise from fire alarm testing is a small price to pay for ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests.

So, while this testing might not be the most magical part of your trip, knowing about it in advance means you can plan around it and still make the most of your Disney vacation.
