Actor Alec Baldwin has been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of involuntary manslaughter stemming from a 2021 tragedy that took place on the set of a film in which the actor was starring.
Alec Baldwin is best known as a talented actor who exhibits great versatility in his roles. He’s also known for portraying roguish and rugged characters. According to DisneyWiki.com, Baldwin has Disney credits to his name as well.
For Disney, he posed as the Magic Mirror in “Where Magic Speaks, Even When You are Not the Fairest of Them All” in the Disney Dream Portrait Series. He also portrayed Charley Pearl in the 1991 Hollywood Pictures film “The Marrying Man,” as well as Jimmy Doolittle in the 2001 Touchstone Pictures film “Pearl Harbor.”
Sadly, an accidental shooting death that occurred in 2021 on the set of Baldwin’s most recent film, titled Rust may become a dark part of Baldwin’s Hollywood legacy as well, depending on the outcome of legal proceedings that will eventually take place after Baldwin was indicted on Friday afternoon by a grand jury for his alleged part in the tragedy.
In 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, age 42, was killed by a prop gun that was being handled by actor and producer Alec Baldwin on the New Mexico set of the film Rust. There have been numerous developments in the ongoing case since that time, including prosecution seeking to file charges against Baldwin, then deciding to drop that pursuit, only to entertain the idea again, a change of prosecutors in the middle of the case, and other developments.
According to court documents filed on Friday in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins’s death. It’s important to note that these are new charges that were filed after earlier chargers against the actor were dropped in April 2023.
Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey filed the felony charges after additional testimony was given to the grand jury from seven different witnesses. In October 2023, prosecutors said that “additional facts” had come to light in the case, and as such, they were calling a grand jury to look into the new evidence.
At the time of the accident, Baldwin was reportedly pointing a prop gun toward Hutchins during a rehearsal. Baldwin has said he was told the gun was “cold,” or not loaded. He has also maintained that he did not pull the trigger.
“We look forward to our day in court,” said Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro of Quinn Emanuel, in a statement on Friday following the indictment.
