Disney’s 2027 Timeline: Target Debut Months Emerge for Monstropolis and Animal Kingdom

Disney World fans already know 2027 will bring two major additions. What they don’t know is exactly when they’ll get to experience them.

Tropical Americas is headed to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios will begin welcoming guests into Monstropolis. Disney reinforced those 2027 plans during its D23 event, giving fans another look at both projects.

Both expansions will introduce new attractions, dining, entertainment, and environments to parks that are already undergoing significant construction. That makes 2027 an important year for guests deciding when to schedule their next Disney World vacation.

And two months are emerging as the most likely possibilities.

If those projections hold, Disney could time both additions around major seasonal travel periods.

Tropical Americas Brings New Adventures to Animal Kingdom

Tropical Americas will introduce an 11-acre area centered around Pueblo Esperanza.

Disney is drawing inspiration from South America, Central America, and Mexico, combining natural environments with familiar stories. The result will give Animal Kingdom an entirely new area built around adventure, wildlife, and exploration.

One major attraction will follow Indiana Jones into an ancient Maya temple as he searches for a mythical creature. Disney is creating an original story for this adventure, specifically for Animal Kingdom.

Another attraction inspired by Encanto (2021) will take guests into the Madrigal family’s world, with Antonio and his connection to animals playing an important role in the experience.

El Carrusel de los Animalitos will give families another option. The carousel will feature 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories.

Pueblo Esperanza will also include a large hacienda housing one of Disney World’s largest quick-service restaurants.

Together, those additions will give guests several reasons to spend time exploring the new land rather than simply moving between its major attractions.

Disney has confirmed Tropical Americas for 2027, but an exact date remains unknown.

Monstropolis Will Arrive Differently

Hollywood Studios’ major expansion won’t necessarily open all at once.

Disney confirmed that portions of Monstropolis will begin welcoming guests in 2027, while crews continue working on the land’s suspended-door coaster.

That approach means the land could continue to evolve after its first visitors arrive, with its biggest ride still under construction while other experiences begin operating.

The expected early offerings include the Glob Theater. Mike and Sulley will host “Welcome to Monstropolis,” featuring familiar characters and an original song from Disney Legend Randy Newman.

Guests will have several other places to explore.

Harryhausen’s will bring the restaurant from Monsters, Inc. (2001) to Hollywood Studios, complete with a sushi-chef Audio-Animatronics figure. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will add another dining option, while Scareporium will give guests somewhere to shop.

The door coaster will come later, so Monstropolis should continue to grow even after guests first enter the land.

When Will These Lands Open in 2027?

Disney confirmed at D23 that Tropical Americas and the initial portions of Monstropolis remain on track for 2027.

The company hasn’t announced official months.

Current speculation points to September as a possibility for Tropical Americas. Opening around that time could give Animal Kingdom a major new attraction heading into Disney World’s Halloween and holiday seasons.

Monstropolis could follow shortly afterward.

November has emerged as a possible window for the beginning of its phased opening. Disney hasn’t confirmed the timing, but a November debut could coincide with Hollywood Studios’ busy holiday period.

If portions were ready by then, holiday visitors would have a major new area to experience.

The timing would also allow Disney to spread its major openings across the second half of 2027 instead of debuting both expansions at once.

September and November remain possibilities, not confirmed dates. Construction progress could ultimately push Disney toward different windows.

What Other Expansions Are Coming?

Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios aren’t the only parks preparing for massive additions.

Magic Kingdom will eventually welcome Piston Peak National Park as part of Frontierland.

The Cars-themed expansion will feature two attractions surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, waterways, trails, and other scenery.

Disney hasn’t announced an opening year. Current expectations point toward 2028 or 2029, although those years remain speculative.

Villains Land will follow with another enormous Magic Kingdom expansion.

Together, these projects show that Disney World’s current expansion plans stretch well beyond next year, with major development expected to continue around the resort.

Disney has already confirmed the most important part: Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will both receive major additions next year.

The exact timing remains less certain.

September could provide the opening window for Tropical Americas, while November could mark the beginning of Monstropolis’ phased debut.

Neither possibility should be treated as an official Disney date yet. Construction schedules can change, especially with projects of this size, leaving plenty of time for Disney’s eventual plans to look different.

But if those projections prove accurate, Disney World could save two of its biggest 2027 additions for the final months of the year, giving fall and holiday visitors much more to experience.
