Disney World’s Monsters Inc. Land Is Opening in 2027—But There’s a Major Catch
Humans officially have an invitation to Monstropolis in 2027.
Disney has confirmed that guests will begin entering its massive new Monsters, Inc. (2001) land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year, giving Walt Disney World another major addition to its lineup.
There’s just one important catch.
The Monsters, Inc. door coaster may not be ready when the land starts opening.
Disney revealed that portions of Monstropolis will welcome guests in 2027 while work continues on the coaster.

In other words, Disney is preparing to introduce the land in stages rather than necessarily waiting until its biggest attraction is finished.
Disney Confirms an Early Monstropolis Opening
Disney hasn’t announced an exact 2027 opening date or identified which locations will be accessible first.
However, the company made its plans clear during D23: parts of Monstropolis are opening next year.
Construction is already progressing at Hollywood Studios, with Disney reporting that steel is rising behind the walls. Walt Disney Imagineering is working alongside Pixar Animation Studios to bring the monster city to life.
And there will be much more to explore than one attraction.
Disney Reveals What’s Inside Monstropolis
Among the biggest announcements is Welcome to Monstropolis, a new show at the Glob Theater.
Mike and Sulley will host the show as they introduce human visitors to the monster world. The production will also feature an original Randy Newman song of the same name, which Disney says is his first composition specifically created for a Disney theme park.
Disney also confirmed Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, serving what the company describes as Monstropolis’ top-rated pizza.
Next door, guests can visit the Monsters University Alumni Club, complete with references to MU organizations and the Scarer’s Club honoring legendary scarers.
The Scareporium will handle the land’s souvenir needs.
But one of the most recognizable additions comes directly from Monsters, Inc. (2001).
Harryhausen’s Restaurant Is Becoming Real
Disney is bringing Harryhausen’s Restaurant to Hollywood Studios.
It’s the same restaurant where Mike and Celia went on their date in Monsters, Inc. (2001), and Imagineering is adding a major feature to its real-world version.
A new Audio-Animatronics sushi chef will use multiple tentacles to prepare monster-inspired creations.
Imagineer Michael Hundgen also teased a menu unlike anything currently available elsewhere at Walt Disney World. And while the sushi chef plays a major role in the restaurant, Disney confirmed that the menu will offer more than sushi.

But What About the Door Coaster?
That remains the biggest question surrounding the 2027 opening.
Disney has already revealed its ambitious Monsters, Inc. coaster, but its latest announcement confirms construction on the ride will continue as portions of Monstropolis begin welcoming guests.
Disney did not provide an opening date for the coaster in this announcement.
That could make Monstropolis’ debut very different from a traditional Disney land opening, where nearly everything becomes available simultaneously.
Instead, guests may get to explore restaurants, shops, entertainment, and other areas before the land’s headline ride is ready.
For now, one thing is official: the doors to Monstropolis begin opening in 2027.
The biggest door of them all may take a little longer.
