7 Things Going Dark at Disney World This September, Including Full Park

A Walt Disney World vacation rarely goes exactly according to plan, and guests arriving in September should be aware of several closures before they reach the parks.

Disney’s September 2026 calendar includes unavailable attractions, restaurants, transportation changes, and resort dining closures. Some are already underway and will continue through the month, while others won’t begin until September vacations have started.

Most guests can work around these closures without dramatically changing their trips. Still, one is significant enough to take an entire park off the table.

Here are seven closures that could affect Walt Disney World guests this September.

1. Tomorrowland Will Be Missing a Familiar Favorite

Magic Kingdom guests won’t be able to experience Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress this September.

The Tomorrowland attraction closed July 6, 2026, for a significant update and will remain unavailable throughout the month.

Disney plans to refresh the longtime attraction while maintaining its familiar spirit. The project will also introduce a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure as part of a new pre-show.

Disney expects Carousel of Progress to return sometime in 2027. Until then, September visitors will have to leave this Magic Kingdom classic off their itineraries.

2. Frontierland Travel Continues to Look Different

Another Magic Kingdom closure affects the Walt Disney World Railroad.

The Frontierland station remains unavailable while Disney continues major construction nearby. Because of that work, the railroad isn’t currently making its traditional complete loop around Magic Kingdom.

Disney is transforming the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area into Piston Peak National Park.

The railroad still operates on a limited schedule, but guests who typically rely on it to get around Magic Kingdom should account for the change when planning their day.

3. An EPCOT Dining Option Goes Offline

The next closure won’t begin immediately when September arrives.

Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT is scheduled to close for planned maintenance beginning September 8. Disney expects the restaurant to reopen later in 2026, although it hasn’t announced a specific date.

Located in World Nature, Coral Reef gives diners views of the massive aquarium inside The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion.

Guests visiting during the opening days of September may still have an opportunity to eat there. After September 8, they’ll need to find another dining option.

4. A Popular Resort Restaurant Remains Closed

The September closures aren’t limited to Disney’s theme parks.

Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will remain unavailable throughout September as its refurbishment continues.

Disney has temporarily moved brunch service to Cítricos during the closure, giving guests another option at the resort.

The Grand Floridian still offers other dining options, but guests who planned to visit the cafe will need to make a change before their trip.

5. Another Resort Dining Choice Takes a Break

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is dealing with a similar situation.

The Turf Club Bar and Grill is expected to remain closed into late September while Disney completes refurbishment work. The Turf Club Lounge remains available during the project.

Guests staying at Saratoga Springs also have plenty of alternatives nearby, with Disney Springs offering numerous restaurants.

Even so, the closure removes one dining option directly from the resort for much of September.

6. Hollywood Studios Has One Less Indoor Option

Guests heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also find Vacation Fun temporarily unavailable.

The Mickey and Minnie animated short plays in the Mickey Shorts Theater and typically offers visitors another indoor experience to add to their park day.

Its closure may not have the same impact as losing one of Hollywood Studios’ major rides, but its absence could still be noticeable. September’s Florida heat and frequent afternoon storms can make indoor attractions especially useful.

Vacation Fun is expected to return in late September, although its exact reopening date remains uncertain.

The final closure will have a much bigger effect on vacation plans.

7. An Entire Park Closes September 9

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will close for refurbishment beginning September 9.

That makes September 8 the final opportunity for guests to visit Typhoon Lagoon before the closure begins.

Afterward, Disney’s Blizzard Beach will remain available as Walt Disney World’s operating water park.

Travel dates will make a big difference. Guests arriving during the opening week of September may still have time to fit Typhoon Lagoon into their vacation. Those arriving September 9 or later won’t have that option.

Because Disney is closing the entire water park, its attractions, restaurants, and other experiences will also become unavailable.

September Guests Should Plan Ahead

September still offers guests plenty of ways to enjoy Walt Disney World, but knowing what’s unavailable can help prevent surprises upon arrival.

Several of these closures only require small adjustments. Guests might need to choose a different restaurant or change how they travel around Magic Kingdom. Typhoon Lagoon is another story, especially for families who have already planned an entire water-park day.

Disney can also adjust refurbishment schedules, making it important to check operating calendars as travel dates approach.

For now, these seven closures are worth factoring into September plans. A quick itinerary check before leaving home could make it much easier to avoid unexpected changes once the vacation begins.
