Disney Adds Premium Hollywood Studios Access Before Major Opening

What This Means for Your Autumn Disney Trip

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is heading into a consequential September at Walt Disney World Resort. The park will host two separately ticketed Disney After Hours nights, offer three Extended Evening Hours dates to a limited pool of eligible hotel guests, open The Magic of Disney Animation on September 14, and end Cool KIDS’ SUMMER on September 8.

Some late-night access will require an additional event ticket, while other extra hours are reserved for guests at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villa Resorts and other select hotels. Disney is also adding a daytime experience, so regular admission is not simply losing value across the board.

Hollywood Studios September 2026 Starts With Paid After Hours

Disney After Hours returns to Hollywood Studios on September 2 and September 12, the final two dates Disney currently lists for the park in 2026. Disney’s official event page confirms September 2 runs from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; September 12 runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

This is not an extension automatically included with a standard daytime ticket. Disney describes After Hours as a limited-capacity, separately ticketed event featuring select attractions with lower waits, character appearances, and included snacks and select bottled beverages. Event guests may enter Hollywood Studios beginning at 7 p.m. without separate daytime admission.

Disney currently lists Hollywood Studios After Hours tickets from $155 to $189 plus tax across the 2026 season, with both September dates shown at $155 on the purchase calendar. That buys access to lower-crowd attraction time after regular operations end.

Extended Evening Hours Create a Second Access Tier

Hollywood Studios Extended Evening Hours are scheduled for September 16, 23, and 30 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to current published schedules.

Unlike After Hours, Extended Evening Hours do not require a separate event ticket. Eligibility, however, is tied to lodging: Disney’s official Extended Evening Theme Park Hours information says the benefit is available to registered guests of Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts and other select hotels. Guests also need valid theme park admission.

Disney’s current Hollywood Studios attraction list for the perk includes Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Tower of Terror, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Toy Story Mania!, Star Tours, Alien Swirling Saucers and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Disney warns availability can change.

Five nights during September therefore offer post-closing park time through either a paid event or a hotel-linked benefit, creating clear differences between what various guests can access after the posted operating day.

Is Disney Putting Hollywood Studios Behind a Paywall?

The calendar supports an argument that Disney is segmenting premium access, but it does not establish that the company is deliberately reducing the standard ticket experience to force upgrades.

There is no verified evidence that Disney shortened Hollywood Studios’ regular September operating hours specifically to sell After Hours tickets or Deluxe hotel stays. The two After Hours events begin after regular park operations, while Extended Evening Hours are an established resort benefit. Calling the strategy “predatory” would assign a motive that Disney has not stated and the available evidence does not prove.

Still, the economic distinction is real. A guest with ordinary park admission can visit during regular operating hours, while another can pay for After Hours or qualify for Extended Evening Hours through an eligible hotel stay and gain additional post-closing time. For families comparing costs, that difference matters.

The Magic of Disney Animation Opens September 14

September is not solely about gated perks. Disney has confirmed The Magic of Disney Animation will open September 14 inside the reimagined Walt Disney Studios area, occupying the former Star Wars Launch Bay building.

The new experience draws inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Burbank campus and Once Upon a Studio. Disney says guests will find “Drawn to Wonderland,” “Off the Page!,” “Olaf Draws!” and the Once Upon a Studio Theater.

The project also reaches into Hollywood Studios history. The original Magic of Disney Animation was part of Disney-MGM Studios when the park opened in 1989; Star Wars Launch Bay later occupied the space before Animation Courtyard closed in September 2025 for its transformation. Inside the Magic has covered both the Launch Bay removal and Disney’s confirmation of the new attraction’s September 14 opening.

For standard-ticket guests, this is an important counterweight to the premium-access discussion: a major new experience is joining the normal daytime park lineup rather than being reserved for a paid event.

Another September Change Arrives Before Opening Day

Cool KIDS’ SUMMER is scheduled to end September 8. Disney launched the resort-wide seasonal program on May 26 with limited-time activities, dance parties and character experiences, including Hollywood Studios programming.

Not everything introduced under the summer banner disappears with it. Disney specifically said Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! would remain beyond summer. Guests should distinguish between limited-time seasonal programming and longer-running additions. Inside the Magic has also detailed the park’s Cool KIDS’ SUMMER character offerings.

Plan Hollywood Studios September 2026 by date. September 2 and 12 carry separate-ticket nighttime events; September 14 brings The Magic of Disney Animation; and September 16, 23 and 30 give eligible hotel guests two additional hours. Disney notes that schedules and attraction availability can change, so guests should recheck the official calendar and My Disney Experience before arrival.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
