Disney World Makes Another Frontierland Change Amid Magic Kingdom Overhaul

Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland isn’t waiting for the future to start changing.

Guests have already watched several familiar experiences disappear or transform, while construction continues on projects that will eventually reshape a massive section of the park.

Now, another change has arrived.

Disney Vacation Club has adjusted the operating hours for McKim’s Mile House, the relatively new DVC Member Lounge located in Frontierland. On its own, changing a lounge schedule isn’t exactly a massive Magic Kingdom development.

But very little about Frontierland exists in isolation anymore.

From new attractions and recently completed refurbishments to the removal of some of Magic Kingdom’s oldest experiences, Disney is rebuilding this section of the park piece by piece.

McKim’s Mile House Gets New Hours

McKim’s Mile House is now scheduled to operate daily from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Previously, the lounge welcomed members from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The change gives guests an additional hour in the morning while eliminating the previous final hour at night.

It’s also not the first schedule adjustment Disney has made.

The lounge previously received extended hours in January 2026, making this the second change since it opened.

Eligible Disney Vacation Club members can use McKim’s Mile House as a break from a busy Magic Kingdom day. The lounge offers seating, complimentary soft drinks, Wi-Fi, charging cords upon request and access to Member Services Advisors.

That’s the newest Frontierland adjustment, but it’s certainly not the biggest.

Frontierland Has Already Lost Several Classics

The most dramatic part of Disney’s Frontierland transformation began when the company permanently closed the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat in July 2025.

Those weren’t minor experiences hidden in a corner of Magic Kingdom.

The river and island occupied an enormous amount of space and helped create Frontierland’s atmosphere for decades. Removing them completely changed the landscape of this side of the park.

Disney is now using that space for something entirely different.

Piston Peak National Park will bring the world of Cars (2006) into Magic Kingdom with an original setting rather than a copy of Radiator Springs.

Two attractions are planned for the area, including a major off-road rally experience and another ride designed with families and younger guests in mind.

It’s one of the largest physical transformations Magic Kingdom has seen in years.

Other Frontierland Attractions Have Changed, Too

The riverfront project isn’t happening by itself.

Splash Mountain permanently closed in 2023 before Disney transformed the attraction into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Disney closed the original show and eventually introduced Country Bear Musical Jamboree, keeping the famous characters while replacing their longtime performance with a new production featuring Disney music.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad then underwent its own substantial refurbishment.

The coaster closed in January 2025 and remained unavailable for more than a year before returning in May 2026. Disney refreshed the attraction and introduced additional storytelling along the way.

Put those projects together, and a pattern becomes clear.

Disney isn’t making one isolated change to Frontierland. Nearly every major piece of the area has either changed recently or sits next to something that is changing.

An Entire New Land Is Coming Next Door

The transformation becomes even larger when looking beyond Frontierland itself.

Villains Land is coming beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Disney has confirmed two major attractions for the new land along with dining and shopping.

That expansion will dramatically change the importance of Frontierland within Magic Kingdom.

Big Thunder Mountain once sat close to the park’s outer boundary. Eventually, this area will lead guests toward another major destination.

Between Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, Disney is effectively expanding Magic Kingdom outward while simultaneously rebuilding much of the existing western side of the park.

Magic Kingdom’s Frontier Is Becoming Something New

The McKim’s Mile House schedule change might be small, but it arrives during one of Frontierland’s most consequential periods.

The lounge will now open earlier and close earlier each day. Meanwhile, everything surrounding it continues evolving on a much larger scale.

Splash Mountain is gone. The original Country Bear show is gone. Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat are gone.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has arrived. Country Bear Musical Jamboree has arrived. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has undergone a major refurbishment. Piston Peak is coming with two attractions, and Villains Land will eventually rise beyond Frontierland.

That’s an overhaul.

McKim’s Mile House is simply the latest piece of a Frontierland story that Disney is still writing.
